seat and178mm (7.1 inch) LCDmonitor.
Selectionof thepowermodeshas been
simplifiedwith theuseof a single rotary
control. As thisdial is turned the engine
speed increases through fourpre-set power
bands and there is also a separatepower boost
function.
Meanwhile in thewheeled excavator sector,
JCBhas added the20 tonne class JS200W
and the17.5 tonne JS175W,which arenow
poweredby theTier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB JCB
Ecomax engine. Though smaller in capacity
than theprevious engine, JCB said this offered
the same129kW (173hp) output,with an
improved690Nmof torque, yet aswell asup
to10% lower fuel consumptionwithno loss of
performance.
Other improvements are similar to those
on the JS300,with anewmonitor and rotary
power control in the cab.A change to the
control systemmeans steering thewheeled
excavators cannowbehandled from a rocker
switchon the right-hand joystick,which
means operators canmove and steer the
machinewhile alsomoving theboom.
For travellingbetween sites there is anew
highwaymode that isolates thehydraulics
from theboom, slew, arm, stabiliser anddozer.
Theupper structures of themachinesmust
beproperly alignedwith the lower chassis
to ensure safeoperationon roads,with an
indicator on thedisplay towarn theoperator if
thishasnot been set.
Another significant launch for JCB is the
457wheeled loader. Power comes from a
Tier 4Final 186kW (250hp)MTU engine
that achieves emissions compliancewith just
selective catalytic reduction (SCR) andno
DPF. JCB said thismachinewas 16%more fuel
efficient than themodel it replaces.
The457 is also the firstmodel in the
JCB line to feature the company’snext
generationCommandPlus cab,whichwill
be rolled-out across thewholeportfolioover
time. Theoperator cannowbenefit from an
uninterruptedpanoramic view to the front
with theApillars beingmovedout and round
the cab.On the457, there are two tablet
computer-style colour screens, one in the
central console and a second at the topof
the right handApillar. This second screen
incorporates access to the loader’s operating
menus and acts as amonitor for themachine’s
rear view camera.
There is alsomore space inside since the
heating, ventilation and air conditioning
systemhas been repositionedoutside themain
cab structure. This provides additional storage
for theoperator, bothbehind the seat and in
pockets in the front and side consoles.
The 100 C-1 is JCB’s first
foray into the 10 tonne
excavatormarket
