March looks set to change all that, with

awareof several suchmachines likely tomake
their debut at theParis showground.Wehope

manufacturers are traditionally coy about
releasing full information too soonbefore
the show theyhave chosen touse as a launch
vehicle.
Theprimary reason for this is simple–
engine emissions regulations.Having covered
this topicmany times in thepast in some
detail, all wewill say in thesepages is that the
interval between the current Stage IIIB/Tier
4 Interim and the imminent Stage IV/Tier 4
Final has been sufficiently short todiscourage
OEMs fromdevotingovermuchR&D time to
developingdemolition specificmachines that
comply to the former regulationswhen their
attentions havebeen firmly fixedon ensuring
that their volume general construction
equipmentwas in compliancewithboth in
turnover the courseof time.
With the introductiondate for theultimate
StageV/Tier 5 regulations a considerable
time away, we can confidentlypredict that
thenext year or so shouldhopefully see a
flurryof activity. Thiswill be confirmed
at the forthcoming Intermat construction
equipment exhibition inParis, with several
manufacturers expected tohavenew
demolition specificmachines on their stands
