Sandvik has introduced the BretecM17C
and L20C hydraulic breakers to replace
the existingM17 and L20models, with
the former for carriers in the 15 to 23
tonne range and the latter for 20 to 29
tonne carriers. They weigh in at 1,240
kg (2,728 lb) and 1,650 kg (3,630 lb)
respectively, with impact ranges of 280 to
760 bpm for theM17C and from390 to
700 bpm for the L20C.
According to Sandvik, the two new
attachments now incorporate a number of
features that are intended to extend their
durability and reliability, and also reduce
ownership and operating costs.
These include round retaining pins to
extend service life, a new tool retaining
system, an improved tool seal, dust-
protected housing, idle blow protection and
automatic greasing. In addition, both new
breakersmake use of durable hydraulic
hoses as standard, a high pressure
accumulator that protects against
pressure peaks, improved gas sealing
for extended service intervals and an
improved, self-adjusting pressure control
valve to eliminate oil spills.
TheM17C is the smaller of two new breakers to join
Sandvik’smediumBretec breaker range.

oosanhas launched twonew tracked
excavators in the shapeof the36
tonneDX340LC-5 and40 tonne
DX380LC-5,which areboth certified toStage
IV emission requirements. The company says
that the twonewmachines offer significantly
improvedperformanceover the equivalent
LC-3 seriesmachines they replace. Lift
capacities over the front and sidewith the
DX340 areupby1% and5% andby3%on
theDX380.
Both arepoweredby aScaniaDC9 five
cylinderdieselwith anoutput of 237kW
(318hp) that needsnodiesel particulate
filter through theuseof cooled exhaust gas
recirculation and selective catalytic reduction
after-treatment.According toDoosan, new
featureshavebeen introduced that lead to a
average reduction in fuel consumptionof 6%.
Among these is thenew ‘TripMeter Setting’
screen that allows operators to check fuel
consumptiondaily (or over adesiredperiod)
directly from the control panel. ThenewAuto
Shut-Off provides an automatic shut down
for the enginewhen themachinehas been
idling for a specified time (three to60minutes
configurableby theoperator) and to save even
more fuel, there is a specialDoosan-developed
system, Smart PowerControl (SPC), to
optimise thebalancebetween thepumps’
output and thediesel engine.
Developed entirelybyDoosan, SPC is
standardon all LC-5models. SPCmonitors
both engine andpumppower and limits
unnecessaryoutputsdependingonwhether
thework is light orheavy, and canbeused
with all fourworkmodes (E, S, P, P+). Both
theDX340LC-5 andDX380LC-5 feature the
innovativeEcopowerhydraulic system,which
consists of a closed-centremain control valve
(MCV) and apressure-controlledpump. The
system functions through theEPOS controller
that receives joystick andpedal signals via
pressure sensors andmainpump flow rate
through swivel angle sensors.According to
theoperator’s inputs, theEPOS controller
outputs the requirements to theEPPRVs
(Electro-Proportional PressureReducing
Valve) for thepumps togenerate the
required flow.
Thisnew electric control of thepump
power, combinedwith the closed-centre
MCV, uses the engine’s powermore effectively
–maximisingpumpusage and reducing
loss of flow and pressure–which results in
morepowerful performance in combined
movements aswell asmore comfort,
smoothness and accuracy.

Volvo has added three newH Series Stage IV
compliantwheeled loaders for Europe, the L60H,
L70H and L90H, withmaximum operatingweights
of 13.6, 15.5 and 17.3 tonnes respectively. All
three feature Volvo’s Torque Parallel linkage
that is said to combine the benefits of Z-bar and
parallel linkage to deliver high breakout forces and
excellent parallel movement. Power comes from
the same six cylinder Volvo diesel delivering 123
kW (167 hp), 127 kW (173 hp) and 137 kW (180
hp) respectively on the threemodels and Volvo
claims that the its powertrain offers durability and
longer component life. Themachines are said to
provide reduced fuel consumption across a range
of different applications.
