development but said, “We will, of course,
target and follow the changes in market
demand and legislations – especially
concerning the environment, which is one of
our core values.”
Morten Hvattum, product manager for
Volvo’s skid steer loaders, provided some
details on the history of the company’s skid
steers.
“The first new Volvo skid steer loader was
shown at the fair Vei og Anlegg 2012 in Oslo,
in May 2012,” he said. “After that, we have
sold and delivered about 50 units. All seven
models available have been sold and the mix
is about 70% wheeled and 30% tracked.”
He added, “This sales success has given us
a great market share in a very short time. In
2013, our skid steer loader-market share was
about 40%. That must be named as a success
after only two years in the market.”
He said the single arm construction gave
the operator an easy and safe door-entrance
on the left side of the cabin, and that this was
the biggest issue.
Hvattum said the skid steers were safe and
easy to operate, and that sales had been for
a wide variety of different uses, including
farming, asphalt removal, and snow removal
on the top floor of car parks where other
machines had difficulty reaching, as well as
sales to rental companies.
SMALL PLATFORM MODELS
JCB has completed its new generation of skid
steer loaders and compact tracked loaders
with the launch of Tier 4 Final/Stage IIIB small
platform models.
The eight machines, including the 135, 155,
175, 190 and 205 skid steers, plus the 150T,
190T and 205T crawler loaders, are powered
by the new JCB Diesel by Kohler Tier 4 engine.
These have been designed to meet emissions
regulations without the need for a diesel
particulate filter (DPF).
JCB produces 17 models in total – nine large
platform models and the eight small platform
machines. They are claimed to deliver up to
16% fuel savings over competitor machines
and an average of 9% improvement over the
previous generation JCB loaders.
JCB claimed its single-armed loader
provided the safest cab in the business, with a
wide-opening side door allowing easy access
for the operator without having to climb over
the attachments. The new cab is up to 17%
larger and tilts to provide easy access to the
machine.
The loaders’ electro-hydraulic control levers
offer the operator three levels of response,
from slow modulation for fine trimming work,
to faster and more responsive controls for
digging and loading work.
The electronic control system also allows
companies the option of specifying H-pattern
controls rather than the standard JCB ISO
pattern. This improves integration in mixed
fleets where operators have experience of
alternative control patterns.
FLAGSHIP MODEL
Avant has launched the 760i, which it called
its new flagship model as it is the biggest,
fastest and most powerful loader in the Avant
range.
The 760i is said to be packed with modern
engine technology providing more torque
and enhanced performance, but at the
same time, lower fuel consumption, exhaust
emissions and noise.
The company said the 760i could be
described as the biggest mini loader in the
world. It claimed the features successfully
combined the lift capacity and work efficiency
of a bigger loader with the versatility and
agility of a smaller machine.
Avant 760i’s Kohler KDI 42kW/225Nm diesel
engine complies with Tier 4 Final emission
regulations, achieving compliance without
the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or
diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
Jani Käkelä, vice president for sales and
marketing, said, “The environmental
friendliness of this loader is not limited to its
consumption. We have also paid attention to
the noise of the loader. The modern engine of
Avant 760i is inherently much quieter.
“In addition, the motor heats less, which
also reduces the noise of the ventilator. An
important factor is also the fact that the
engine reaches full torque at very low speed
Pell Plant Hire, based in Lincolnshire, UK, has purchased its first Bobcat compact loader, a new
