MAY-JUNE 2014
HILLHEAD SHOWGUIDE
W
ith signs that economic
conditions are on the up, this
year’s Hillhead show should see
an increase in attendees visiting the quarry
floor and drift roads that will be home to the
more than 450 UK-based and international
suppliers of plant, equipment, materials and
services who will be showing off their latest
products.
The 2012 event attracted an exhibitor base
of 459, with 16,675 attendees from around
the world. The Hillhead quarry site has a total
area of 140,000 m
2
(1.5 million ft
2
), of which
55,590 m
2
(600,000 ft

) of stand space was
taken up with a further 30,000 m
2
(323,000
ft

) used for live equipment demonstrations.
It is fair to say that Hillhead is predominantly
aimed at the mining and quarrying sector, but
there is sufficient cross-over to make the show
an interesting place to be for the demolition
and associated recycling industry.
Pride of place will naturally go to the
crushing and screening sector in this regard,
with many new machines making their debut
in the UK. Some of the machines that will be
on show will have had their formal premiere
on the ConExpo show ground in early March,
but will be getting their European debuts at
the event, but others will be getting their first
public exposure.

One of Hillhead’s demonstration areas
in full flow during the 2012 event
will use the show to give its SR514 two deck
screen, on sale for the last 12 months, its first
outing for a mass audience. The machine’s 4.3
x 1.5 m (14 x 5 ft) double deck box provides
three way material separation and is most
widely used for fine sizing applications. It is
powered by a Cat 4.4 diesel delivering 75 kW
(100 hp).
It will be joined by the re-engineered
DF512 scalping screen that now incorporates
two or three way separation but has all the
features of the previous model. According
to the company, it will be exhibiting three
machines on its stand but declined to give
details of the third in advance of the show, so
there may well be something brand new to see
from the company in June.
Italian crushing plant specialist Baioni will
use the show to present its new soil washing
system that has been recently developed to
meet the growing demand for equipment to
decontaminate former industrial sites that are
to be reclaimed. The system processes soils,
grading out usable aggregates in marketable
sizes and decontaminates silts and water. This
leads to a reduced requirement for further
processing, the ability to treat for a wide range
of contaminants, and proven operation in
sand/gravel soils.
The company will also be showing its
most recent, innovative designs for its high
