Autoprime
Q200 unit
SPP Pumps is developing a version of its Q200
Autoprime pump that will allow it to be transformed
from its normal general purpose configuration
into a solids handling unit for sewage and other
applications.
Duncan Jackson, manager of SPP’s Autoprime
business unit, tells
IRN
; “We want a pump where we
can swap out the impeller, the wear plate and suction
tee and go from a general purpose duties to a true
sewage handling capacity.”
The UK-based company – which is owned by
India’s Kirloskar group – is currently building a
demonstration unit that will be taken around its
dealers in Europe and Australia to gauge reaction.
That demo unit should be ready by September or
October, with a full commercial version available as
soon the pump has been “double, double checked”,
says Mr Jackson.
The modification process has been made easy for
any general rental company; “Any fitter could do it,
it’s a piece of cake”, he says, “You just need to take
off two covers – there’s no need to strip out the whole
unit.” The most likely scenario is for a customer to
hold mainly general purpose versions of the Q200
pumps with several Q200S solid handling kits in stock.
The company is also developing the range of
options offered on the pumps, with a GPS tracking
system the latest development. This will provide
users with SMS text messaging for issues including
low fuel, low oil pressure or high water alarm (on the
auto stop-start units).
Meanwhile, the company continues to develop its
international sales business. In recent years it has
been successful in selling to customers in Australia,
including Kennards Hire and Coates Hire. Since 2011
it has established a dealership agreement with Weir
Minerals Multiflo, which has taken a quantity of the
Q series Autoprime 100M and 150M pumps. These are
supplied as ‘pods’, five to a 20 ft shipping container,
which Weir then mounts on trailers in Australia.

total heads of 124 m and solids handling of 38 mm.
The company has also introduced the new High
Head range into its own rental fleet, with £0.85 million
worth of open and super silent pumps ranging from
the H80 to the H150 ordered. This is in addition to the
£3 million already invested this year on other ranges
of pumps as Selwood continues to enhance its fleet.
Selwood said it is “bringing low emission engines to
the high head pump market” with the introduction of
its H200 pump, powered by a Stage III/Tier 4 Interim
Volvo D16 engine.
The engine uses a diesel particulate filter (DPF)
and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) in combination
with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to meet the
emissions regulations.
The H200, with a pumping capacity of more than
950 m

units in the new high head range. The latter is a heavy
