T
ransport company Kübler Spedition
in Germany moved a section
of an Airbus A 380 for aircraft
manufacturer Airbus across Germany
from Dresden to Hamburg.
The section measured 8.5 metres wide
and stands 9.3 m tall. For the project the
section was loaded onto specialized trailers.
In total the dimensions of the transport
measured 38 m long, 8.5 m wide and
10.3 m high. The total weight of the
transport was 215 tonnes.
The project was originally due to
begin in the summer of 2013, however
,due to flooding of the River Elbe the
transportation was brought to a stop
and delayed for nearly two months, a
company spokesperson said. Operations
were resumed in September.
For the first part of the project the cargo
was transported by road to the Dresden
port. During this section of the journey
challenges included width and height
restrictions on public roads, bridges and
tramways. Obstacles such
as traffic lights and street
lamps were also removed
or rotated away from the
road to avoid collisions.
The journey
to Dresden port took
eight hours.
On arrival at the port
the cargo was loaded from
the trailers onto a vessel
using two mobile cranes.
The cockpit was also lifted
as an additional load into the cargo hold, a
company spokesperson added.
Once secured on the barge the segment
of the Airbus A 380 travelled along the
River Elbe to Hamburg.
After a week long journey the barge
arrived at the dock of the Airbus premises
in Hamburg. Within two hours the cargo
was unloaded on site and handed over
to the client.
