JCB
debuted four new
telehandlers at the show,
including the compact 525-60
Hi-Viz telehandler; the540-200
telehandlerwith a reach of 66
feet; the high-capacity 560-80; and
the516-42, JCB’s first 16,000-pound-
capacity telewith a lift height of 42 feet.
The516-42was designed for NorthAmerica,
the company says, and is geared toward oil and
gasmarkets. It features a3-stage boom, side-
mounted engine and three steermodes.
The525-60 features amaximum lift height
of 20 feet and a load capacity of 5,500pounds.
The525-60 is 5 feet, 10 incheswide and6 feet,
3 inches tall, allowing access tomulti-story
parking and operation in tight quarters. The
525-60Hi-Viz replaces the524-50, 527-55
and the520-50 rear-enginedmodels, with a
modern side-enginemount design. This permits
a lowboompivot point formaximum stability
and increased visibility to the rear and across
the boom.

unveiled theMHT1490
telehandler at ConExpo. The high-capacity
telehandler is geared toward theNorthAmerican
oil, gas andbridge sectors and features a lifting
height of 46 feet and a20,000-pound lifting
capacity.
TheMHT1490 is a part of a series of high-
capacitymodels, including26,455pounds,
40,000pounds and50,000pounds.
The new line of telehandlers features 176hp
Mercedes Tier 4 Final engines and the units are
equippedwith exhaust gas recycling valves and
selective catalytic reduction.
TheMHT1490 also has a hydrostatic
transmission coupled to the gearbox for driving
at speeds up to25mph.
Automatic rear axle lockingprovides better
lateral stability,Manitou says, allowing the
MHT to be designed andbuilt for suchhigh
capacities.
The heavier capacitymodelswill debut in June
2014, according to the company.

debuted its
largest-capacity telehandler at ConExpo. The
65,000-pound capacity telehandlerweighs
95,000pounds and is aimed forwork inbridges
andpipe-handling, the company says.
On the other end of the spectrum, Xtreme

4-8 in Las Vegas, was one
of the largest.More than130,000
visitorswalked through its gates according
to its organizer, theAssociation of Equipment
Manufacturers (AEM), and that number
surpassed2011’s event and came second only
toConExpo2008.
According toAEM, of thosewho attended the
show, just under a quarterwere from outside
theU.S. AEM said the31,000 international
visitors toConExpo2014 represented a+9
percent increase on the2011 show. It added
that 170 countrieswere represented, compared
to159 in2011, withCanada, China, Europe and
LatinAmerica heavily represented.
The show also set a new record for exhibit
space, with2,000 companies takingmore than
2.35million square feet of space.
While patrons pounded the pavement,
exhibitors displayednumerous newpieces
of equipment, from theworld’s tallest self-
propelledboom lift, to compact telehandlers
andmore. The overall positive outlook from
the industrywas complimentedby the number
of newmachines presented for the first time
during the exhibition,many of whichwere
previewed in the pages of
ALH
prior to the show.
