INFO:
A
number of high-profile industry
experts are scheduled to speak at the
International Powered Access Federation’s
(IPAF) convention this Oct. 21-22 in Chicago.
“The members and staff of IPAF have a wealth
of experience and knowledge about the safe use
of AWPs that they are keen to share as part of
our mission to keep the industry safe – add to
that the skills and specialist knowledge of our
speakers and you have a recipe for success,”
says Tim Whiteman, CEO of IPAF.
Brad Boehler, president of Skyjack, and
former JLG president Craig Paylor, join a strong
line-up of speakers that will discuss the need
to address falls from height. Also on the roster
is Jim Maddux, director, OSHA Directorate of
Construction. Maddux will discuss the need
to address falls from height and OSHA’s fall
protection campaign to raise awareness and
give employers guidance on the need to address
this hazard.
Boehler is set to discuss aerial work platform
risk assessment and product selection, while
Paylor, now with SmartEquip, will examine how
technology can assist companies in being more
efficient, productive and profitable.
There will also be a panel discussion on the
subject of egress from an elevated AWP, and
breakout sessions on AWPs and MCWPs. Ron
Pilla from Valcourt will share his experience
in training employees in a manner that they
understand and Teresa Kee from NES Rentals
will outline the company’s experience of using
eLearning to conduct AWP operator training.
IPAF’s eLearning module was introduced
to the U.S. earlier this year with the help of
NES Rentals. The trial run saw nearly all of
the company’s 1,050 staff receiving a PAL
Card, and has set the scheme up for continued
success. The eLearning module allows operators
Chicago’s famous Cloud Gate, a
public sculpture by Indian-born
British artist Anish Kapoor.
