ACCESS, LIFT & HANDLERS
SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2013
IPAF US CONFERENCE PREVIEW
to take the theoretical part of the PAL Card
training course online, but they must still pass
a supervised theory and practical test at a
recognized center.
“As far as training in the U.S. is concerned,
everyone is online; that is the way they like to
learn and a lot of the credit has to go to Andy
Studdert, NES Rentals’ chief executive officer,
who has helped to develop the cause,” says
Steve Couling, IPAF’s president. “It’s a concept
that can be developed across many parts
of the world, particularly with language and
geographical challenges. But we are in the early
stages and we need to drive it now because I
think it’s something that’s going to explode over
the coming years.”
The IPAF U.S. convention is sponsored by
NES Rentals, Skyjack and JLG. It will take place
at the Renaissance Chicago O’Hare Suites
Hotel. IPAF has a special room rate of $129
per night. To get this rate, call (800) 468-3571
before Sept. 30. Early bird convention rates are
available until Oct. 2.
NES Rentals is offering the AWPs for Managers
training course on the afternoon of Oct. 22,
immediately after the close of the convention.
The course will be held at the NES offices next
door to the convention hotel.
AWP for Managers
IPAF’s AWPT arm in North America offers an
aerial work platforms (AWPs) for managers
training course aimed at enabling supervisors
and managers to prepare for and safely
coordinate various types of AWPs on site.
The AWPs for Managers course provides
attendees with the basic information every
manager should know about planning, selecting
and preparing for the use of AWPs on sites, from
paperwork to logistics. This includes regulations,
recognition and avoidance of hazards, risk
assessment, and looking at the various types of
AWPs available and what they are best suited
for.
The course does not qualify attendees to
operate AWPs, but attendees will receive
instruction and training that will allow them to
effectively address all aspects of AWP safe use
on their projects, IPAF says.
The syllabus includes topics such as: AWP
regulations and guidance, rental terms and
conditions, machine types and use, structural
parts and AWP selection, operator training and
familiarization, operator daily inspections, AWP
personal fall protection, safe operating methods
and hazard awareness.
Attendees who successfully pass the written
test at the end of the course will receive a
certificate of completion. The course is targeted
at project managers, construction foremen,
supervisors and other construction personnel.
AWPs for managers is available from selected
AWPT training centers. Find a training center
near you using the training center locator. For
