Haulotte revenues
down 5% in Q1
Haulotte has reported first quarter
revenues for 2013 of €84.5
million, 5% lower than same
period last year which was €89
million, while North American
sales were down -23% followed by
a -11% decline in Europe.
Speaking at a press conference
during Bauma, Alexandre Saubot,
chief operating officer of Haulotte
Group, said despite the declines,
“there is nothing to worry about.”
“The US is down because of
a timing issue,” Saubot said,
citing the company will make
hearty second quarter deliveries
of scaffolding, which Haulotte
produces at its Archbold, OH,
USA facility.
He also attributed the decline
to an uncertain economy in
Europe where customers are
hesitant to purchase large volumes
of equipment, instead opting to
buy piece-by-piece.
Other falls included new
equipment sales down 5%, parts
and services dropping 4% and
rental falling 7%.
Despite the declines, Saubot
also said he would not gauge the
market based on the first three
months of the year and will
instead look to the second quarter
for an outlook. “We have a lot of
expectations with Bauma and the
second quarter,” he said. Saubot
said Haulotte currently has a two-
month backlog.
“The crisis is not over,” he
said. “People are still cautious.”
On the other hand, Haulotte
did experience gains in South
America where sales jumped 42%
and also increased in Asia Pacific
by 15%.

Canadian-based
Skyjack
has reported a 2.7% decline in revenues compared to
2012’s first quarter results. Revenues overall were $137.5 million. Skyjack makes
up a significant portion of Linamar’s industrial division. Linamar attributed slower
sales due to a still-recovering European market but also saw improvements in Brazil
and other developing markets.
■
JLG’s
sales increased 7.5% to $817.4 million in the second quarter of its
2013 financial year, compared to same period in 2012. Parent company Oshkosh
Corporation said the increase was primarily the result of higher replacement
demand for telehandlers in North America. But AWP sales were flat.
■
United Rentals
will increase its sales force by at least 10% this year to
capitalise on its planned US$1.5 billion expenditure on fleet and to gain market
share in its key accounts and specialty rentals businesses. The company reported
rental revenues up 5.4% to $916 million with total revenues of $1.1 billion in Q1.
■
In an uneven set of results for
Terex Corporation
in its first quarter, it was
the AWP Genie aerial work platform and cranes segments which showed the most
growth, thanks to strong demand in North and South America. Net sales were up
21% from the first quarter of 2012, at US$509 million. Compared to the last quarter
of 2012 net sales were up 38% from $368 million.

The Rental division of Brazil’s
Mills Estruturas e Serviços de
Engenharia S.A.
continues to expand dramatically with first quarter revenues up
34.8% to R$76.1 million (
€
28.7 million), a new quarterly record. The company said
the powered access sector in Brazil was still “booming” and that it would continue.
Swedish rental company
Stockholms Höjdliftar (SHL)
has ordered a Bronto Skylift
S 65 XR truck mount. The 65
m working height S 65 XR was
one of two new prototype truck
mounts on the manufacturer’s
stand at Bauma. The other
one was the 56 m S 56 XR
model. The vehicle is also road
legal in the city of Stolkholm,
where it will be used, without
any permits. The S 65 XR will
be the company’s fourth Bronto;
they currently have a 35 m unit
and two 53 m units.
MAJOR EUROPEAN
DEPOT OPENED
Nationwide Platforms has opened
one of Europe’s biggest facilities for
access-related equipment.
The four acre site, based in the
UK, will house about 900 mobile
elevating work platforms (MEWPs)
and units from the business’
Specialist Vehicle range.
Employing around 45 staff,
including engineers, operators, sales
and regional management roles,
the site is also home to the region’s
Customer Service Centre, which
will work in tandem with six depots
across the Midlands and East Anglia
regions of the UK.
