IN BRIEF
Sinoboom and GJJ
raise the stakes
Powered access manufacturer
Sinoboom opened its new
factory in April, just after tower
crane and hoist specialist GJJ
announced its facility in March.
Sinoboom says it will
produce 3000 scissors and 2000
articulated and telescopic booms
annually at the 200,000 square
metre Changsha-based plant,
significantly more than the 300
units manufactured in 2012. (For
more information see the Self
propelled booms featurre, starting
on page 13).
GJJ’s 35,000 square metre plant
stands on a 200,000 square metre
plot. Half of the facility has been
completed, while the other half
is still under construction and is
set to be operational by the end
of 2014.
The planned annual output
from the factory will be 5000
hoists and 1000 tower cranes.
GJJ’s head office is based in
Guangzho, where it already has
two facilities.
The company’s Turnover in
2012 was RMB1.35billion,
incorporating sales of 4000 hoists
and 300 cranes, it added.
Outreach Access has recently
taken delivery of the largest
truck mounted access
platform in Scotland. The
Arrival of the 70 m Palfinger
Wumag WT 700 at Outreach’s
Falkirk facility marks the last
stage of a UK£1.25 million
investment by the company
in three truck mounts from
the manufacturer. The other
two models: the WT 530 and
WT 450, have 53 m and 45 m
working heights, respectively.
CHINESE RENTAL MAJOR TO BE SOLD
The owner of Chinese access rental company Beijing XYZ Co Ltd is looking to sell
the business and is keen to find a buyer from outside China.
XYZ, which has a fleet of around
420 units, mainly scissors and
boom, located mainly in Beijing
and Shanghai, is one of the best
established rental businesses in
China. It was founded in 1995 by Mr
Li Zhong.
Mr Li told

that he was hoping
to sell the business, preferably to
a foreign company, although he
would consider some form of joint
venture. Mr Li is also a shareholder
of Mantall, the Chinese manufacturer
of scissor lifts and booms, and
IRN
understands that he wants to focus on
this company. XYZ is one of the few
Chinese owned aerial platform rental
companies of a significant size.
Access charges up
global ranking
Seven of the world’s leading
powered access equipment
manufacturers improved
their standings in the global
construction equipment industry
last year, according to the annual
Yellow Table survey of the sector
conducted by sister-magazine
International Construction
.
The rankings, based on total
revenues from construction
equipment sales last year, saw
Terex ranked as the largest
access-making manufacturer in
the industry. It was placed 8th
globally.
Skyjack achieved the greatest
improvement last year, climbing
seven places up the rankings
to 42nd, while Tadano’s six
place climb to no. 23 was also a
strong performance.There were
also gains for JLG, Manitou,
Merlo, Aichi and Haulotte. Only
Palfinger lost places compared to
last year, while Terex, XCMG and
Kobelco were unchanged.
Overall sales of construction
equipment by the world’s 50
largest manufacturers grew just
+2.6% last year to US$ 186
billion. This was a record for the
industry, but the low growth rate
was indicative of weak conditions
in 2012.
The Yellow Table is
published in the April edition
of
International Construction

China growth
New Chinese access equipment
manufacturer Henan Jiange
Crane Company ( JHC) has said
there could be 1 million units of
powered access equipment in the
country by 2018.
The company specialises in
industrial overhead cranes and
gantry cranes and moved into
powered access equipment last
year. Jack Dai, senior sales
manager, said, “China is about 30
years behind the US. Not many
people use access equipment
in the country now but there is
going to be huge growth.The
labour cost is increasing and
ideas about health and safety are
growing. So, China will be a huge
market in three to five years.”
He added: “In five years we
hope to sell 2000 units in China
each year. At the moment there
are about 10000 units in China,
but in five years it could be
100000 at least. Maybe in 10 years
that will have increased to
1 million units.”
