Kennards Hire has expanded its New
Zealand rental operation by opening
a new location in Wellington, bringing
its New Zealand network up to ten.
Kennards entered New Zealand a
year ago with the acquisition of
McEntee Hire.
■
Portakabin is expanding its
mainland Europe operations with its
first rental location in Luxembourg
and plans to establish a location in
Toulouse in south west France.
■
UK-based Coates Offshore,
owned by Australia’s Coates Hire,
has secured a “multi-million”
refinance package in support of its
international growth strategy. The
business rents to the offshore oil
and gas industry worldwide.
■
General de Alquiler de Maquinaria
(GAM) and Peruvian heavy equipment
rental and sales company Crosland
Técnica have reached a “strategic
agreement” to cooperate in Peru’s
equipment rental market.
■
Strong third quarter results from
Cramo’s Norwegian and German
operations helped offset lower
sales in markets including Finland,
Sweden, Denmark.
■
HSS Hire has acquired TecServ,
a company that services contract
cleaning equipment in the UK. The
business will boost HSS’ Reintec
cleaning rental division.
■
Strong performances at its
telehandler, tool hire and ground
shoring divisions led improved half-
yearly results at VP plc, with total
revenues up 9% at £91.3 million and
operating profits rising by 11.4%.
■
Weaker demand from Ramirent’s
main Nordic markets saw revenues
for the third quarter down 3.3% and
pre-tax profits down 26%.
■
Brazil-based Mills Estruturas e
Serviços de Engenharia (Mills) saw
record revenues in the third quarter,
including its rental division which
boasted growth of 39.4%.
MANUFACTURERS
■
Caterpillar said its dealers will
provide ‘de-tiering’ services for Tier 4
Interim engines under 130 kW from the
beginning of next year, with engines in
the 130 to 895 kW sizes not requiring
any modifications for use in lesser
regulated markets.
■
Yanmar has acquired a 6.26% stake
in Manitou and the two manufacturers
will cross-distribute products in Latin
America. The deal follows a similar
strategic alliance for North America,
signed by the two companies in
January 2012.
■
Turkish manufacturer Hidromek has
acquired Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’
(MHI) grader business, together with its
production facilities in Thailand.
■
Alamo Group has signed a letter
of intent to acquire wood chipper
specialist Bandit Industries. The deal
will add small groundcare equipment
such as chippers, stump grinders and
wood recyclers to Alamo’s truck and
tractor mounted mowing equipment,
Gradall excavators and street sweepers.
■
Chinese manufacturer Liugong
has expanded its presence in Poland
with the acquisition of components
producer ZZN Transmission Plant.
■
Revenues at Volvo Construction
Equipment fell 7% in the third quarter
of the year, compared to the same
period in 2012, to SEK12.3 billion
(US$1.94 billion).

Kobelco Construction Machinery
Europe (KCME) has opened a new

■
European Union financing for
transport infrastructure will triple for
the period 2014 to 2020 to €26 billion.
Construction federation FIEC said,
“Now, the ball is in the court of the
Member States who have to commit
themselves to make these projects a
reality.”

The results of the November
Construction Europe
Barometer survey
were almost unchanged from October,
providing a fourth straight month
of fairly robust confidence in the
European construction sector.
■
Worldwide construction of new
housing is expected to increase 3.3%
a year to reach 60.9 million units in
2017, according to research company
Freedonia. It said urbanization,
especially in developing countries, will
spur construction of new housing.
■
The Italian construction equipment
market was down 24% in the first
nine months of the year, compared to
the same period last year, according
to manufacturers’ trade association
UNACEA. Sales totalled 4091 machines
in the first three quarters, compared
to 5386 in January – September 2012.
■
Construction output in August fell
4.7% year-on-year in the Eurozone and
was down 2.5% among all member
states (EU28), according to Eurostat.
The largest year-on-year falls in August
were registered in Portugal (-12.8%),
Italy (-10.6%), Bulgaria (-9.5%) and
Poland (-8.9%). The highest increases
were seen in Hungary (14.6%),
Romania (8.9%), Spain (7.0%) and
Sweden (5.0%).
