Liebherr crawler on Chilean mine
A Liebherr LR 1300 crawler
crane is helping construct a
workshop for the maintenance
of dump trucks and a
concentrator station at a
Chilean copper ore mine.
The project is a joint venture
between Vial y Vives and
Sigdo Koppers.
The site is 4,600 metres
above sea level and is owned
by SCM Minera Lumina
Copper Chile. It is in Caser ón,
southeast of Copiapo, in the
Atacama desert.
During the project, the
crawler will work on the
construction and assembly
works of a concentrator
station. This plant will be used
for processing ore. In
total, approximately
20,000 tonnes of steel
structure, 14,000 tonnes of
mechanical equipment,
70,000 metres of piping, in
a range of diameters, and
150,000 m of cable and
circuits for electrical and
electronic control technology
will be used in this
construction project.
On completion, the mine
will process 105,000 tonnes of
primary and secondary copper
ore per day.
Terex RT 100 in Minas Gerais
A Terex RT 100 rough terrain
crane has been put to work
at the new Anglo American-
owned Minas-Rio mine in
Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The site is one of the largest
iron ore mines in the world,
and will export approximately
26.5 million tonnes of ore
in 2013. On completion, the

Much of the rapid growth in
Brazil’s construction sector
in recent years has been on
sport stadiams and similar
venues. One such project that
has received a lot of attention
is the construction of the Arena
Corinthians stadium, which is
being built for the 2014 football
World Cup.
On site is a Grove RT765E-2
rough terrain crane and a
GMK6220L all terrain. The
cranes are working on the
pre-assembly of the stadium.
The 60 tonne capacity Grove
RT765E-2 has a 33.5 metre
boom, and the GMK6220L has
a six-section, full power 72 m
boom and a 220 tonne capacity.
Both cranes are unloading
construction materials weighing
as much as 34 tonnes and
lifting them to heights of 33
m in limited space and windy
conditions. São Paulo-based
Locar is the company supplying
the crane to Odebrecht, the
main contractor for the site.
The Arena Corinthians, on the
east side of São Paulo, will
host some of the tournament’s
games before becoming the
new home of the Brazilian Club
Corinthians team.

“We were looking for a
rough terrain crane because
of the mobility needed within
the huge jobsite but it also
must have the ability to work
in confined spaces,” said
Paulo Simonsen, Montcalm
operations director. “The
RT 100 fitted the bill perfectly
because of its load charts
and reach.”
Transporting the crane
to the site was also easy,
Simonsen said. “The crane
had to travel 1,300 km in three
days to get to the site and only
needed one additional truck.”
Work for the rough terrain
includes lifting 12 tonne steel
structures at a 12 metre radius.
For these lifts the crane is
configured with a 22.5 metre
boom. The crane is on site
until the end of 2013.

The mine has the potential of

The mine is undergoing a
