SCREENING
EQUIPMENT
L
ast year saw thenews that Sandvik
would ceaseproductionofmobile
crushing and screening equipment in
Swadlincote,UK and centre itsmanufacturing
effort at its factory inBallygawley inNorthern
Ireland.
Functions such asproduct support,
marketing and research&development are
still carriedout inSwadlincote, but production
isnow inBallygawley and itwashere that
Sandvik chose to launch twonew screening
products at the start of this year.
AsAndersKjellberg, Sandvik’s vice
president for crushing& screening, said:
“Ultimately it’s about creating a centreof
excellence, butwewill alsohave satellites
around theworld. It has also improvedour
cost base andmade it leaner.”
He added thatwhenSandvik
acquired theExtec andFintec
businesses inMay2007,which
brought theSwadlincote
andBallygawley sites into
the company, it had five
factories around theworldmakingmobile
crushers and screens.
Manyof the ideas thatweredistinct features
of theExtec range arebeing carriedover into
newgenerations of the company’s equipment.
Agood example is theQA335Doublescreen
– the ‘Doublescreen’was apatented feature
of theExtec range,with two independent
screens in the samebox, effectivelyperforming
twoprocesses ononeplant. Sandvik says this
system still outperforms a similarly sized
single screenby about 30%. EugeneLyons, vice
president for sales andmarketingofmobile
crushers and screens at Sandvik, said: “The
Doublescreen is amassive advantageover our
flat and single-box competitors.”
Described as amid-sizedunit, theQA335
features a75kW (100hp)Cat engine and
has a simple touse sequential start-up
systemon-board,which allows it tobe set
up andput intooperation at thepushof
fivenumbered and colour-codedbuttons.
The standardmachineweighs in at just
over 27 tonnes and the transport dimensions
are15.3m (50.2 ft) longx3.4m (11.2 ft)wide
x3.0mwide.
