Telehandler surge
The annual
T

a bustlingmarket.
Lindsey
Anderson
reports onmajor
activity frommid-sized and
smaller independents all the
way up to the big boys.
T
heNorthAmerican telehandlermarket is
thriving according to data collected for
ALH’
s annual TELEHANDLER
30
listing.
Of the companies listed on the T
30
, rental
fleet numbers increased a total of 9.2percent
this year to49,038units from44,878 in2013.
Comparing2012 figures (39,094 total units) to
2014’s, the growth is even larger at 25percent.
Perhapsmost notable, though, are the
number of double digit surges in fleet size. Six
companies on the T
30
have20percent or higher
increases in their telehandler fleets, including
Sunstate Equipment Co., which saw a38
percent increase inunits (from1,800 to2,500).
“This rate of growth is relatively in linewith
our growth rate as a company,” saysBenno
Jurgemeyer, CEO of Sunstate Equipment Co.
“Telehandlers have become a staple piece of
equipment on almost every jobsite. Inmost
cases they are the first piece of equipment on a
jobsite, and then one of the last pieces to come
off.”
Topping our list, as it has since the T
30
’s
inception, isUnitedRentalswhichhas 16,935
telehandlers in its fleet. In second, but by nearly
half the figure of United’s, is Sunbelt Rentals
whichhas an estimated telehandler fleet of close
to8,890, industry sources tell

. Rounding out
our top five companies includesHertz Equipment
Rental Co. with4,700units, AhernRentalswith
