MARCH-APRIL 2014
Return to
Confidence was back
in a big way at the
ConExpo-Con/Agg
exhibition, held
at the beginning
of March in Las
Vegas, USA. The
three-yearly show
attracted nearly 130000
visitors, with just under
a quarter of them from
outside the US - a 9%
increase on 2011.
AI
was there to round-up
up the access news.
A-listed update
Altec said it will launch a 100 ft
truck mounted platform in July
this year. It will be an update of the
existing AM900-E100 with a “top
to bottom” redesign and a 105 m
working height. It will be a Category
A insulated unit, which can work with up
to 500 kV.There is a material handing option
which will include a 90 degree rotator with
material handling jib.There is a 180 degree
rotator on the personnel-only machine.
First time on show
Chinese manufacturer Dingli was exhibiting
its scissor and vertical mast products in North
America for the first time at ConExpo.
The company has been in the US for 10 years
with dealer Bellymore but only for its push
around stock picker product.
Now Dingli is actively seeking a distributor
for the scissor and vertical mast lines. So far the
manufacturer has not sold any of these products
directly into North America, it said.
But with the right dealer it hopes to sell up
to 1000 units there in the next two years. In
comparison, the company said there are more
than 3000 scissors in Europe.
Once those two product lines have been
established the company said it would look into
introducing self propelled booms for direct sale
into the US, as part of a second phase.
High reach
Elliott Equipment Company used the
exhibition to launch two new products; a 210
ft aerial work platform and a 45-tonne boom
truck. They can both lift people and materials.
The E160 E-Line material handling AWP
features a 210 ft working height, material
handling capabilities and a seated rotating
control station mounted on a commercial truck
or track vehicle carrier. The unit was designed
to meet the needs of utility and construction
users.The E160 reaches 210 ft by utilising a 32
to 55 ft telescopic jib.
One of the primary focuses of the E160
design is to eliminate the ANSI B30.5 ‘test
pick’ requirement when using a crane with a
basket.

JLG Industries launched the world’s largest
self-propelled boom lift at ConExpo.The 185-
foot platform height 1850SJ offers almost three

independent electric-drive motors that provide
unprecedented rough terrain performance and
relies on an environmentally friendly, Tier 4
diesel-powered generator for recharging.”
The hybrid boom features a platform height
of nearly 34 ft, a 17 ft up-and-over reach, and a
platform capacity of 500 pounds.

level access products with the LiftPod FT140,
initially aimed at the US market. Topping the
