Gillymakes first lift at
Jack Daniel’s distillery
GilleyCrane and JackDaniel’s
recently came togetherwhen
GilleyCranewas taskedwith
lifting twoboilersweighing
more than100,000pounds
each at the JackDaniel’s
Distillery inLynchburg, TN.
Theplan required eachboiler
tobe lifted twice at a28-foot
radius in a confined space.
“At one endof the lift,wehad
towork around a fenced-in lot
near other equipment,while
at theother endwehad to
work around rebar stickingup
around theboiler base,” said
GilleyCraneownerRobert
Gilley.
Working in the confined
area,GilleyCrane’s crew
needed a compact cranewith
goodmaneuverability.Having
only a two-daywindow to
complete theproject, the
companyneeded a crane that
offered fastmobilization, quick
setup and efficient operation.

5800ATpurchased from its
TerexCranedistributor in
Cleveland, Renegar-Driggers
Machinery.GilleyCrane’s
four-man crewquickly roaded
theExplorer 5800plus full
counterweight the30miles
from itsManchester yard to
Lynchburg. It required four
additional transports tomove
the crane’s 154,800pounds of
counterweights.
Poweredby a12.7-liter, 550-
hpTier 4F (Euromot Stage
IV) engine, the cranehas
thepower toquicklymake
it to the jobsite at speeds
reaching53mph.Onceonsite,
engine speed andpower is
reduced to1600RPM and
275hp respectively, providing
the capacity for crane
operationwhile reducing fuel
consumption.
In total, theproject required
eight lifts tomove andplace
the twoboilers andbases. The
20-foot-tall by25-foot-long
boilers and10,000-pound
baseswere first placedonto
trailers andmoved200yards
to their final location. The
cranewas riggedwith55.4
feet ofmainboom at a28-foot
radius.

This 15-ton carrydeck crane
is ideal for both inside and
outside projects, is offered
in either a dual-fuel or diesel
engine, andhas a compact
footprint, long reach and
hefty capacity, all whichmake
it ideal for rental work.
TheCD5515-2 is often
foundworking in industrial
plants, such as petroleum
refineries and factories, but
the agile crane has become a
mainstay for rental companies
serving all types of industries
due to its compact footprint
and standard 41-foot boom.
(Anoptional 50-foot, full-
power boom is available for
the dieselmodel).
A 15-foot boom extension,
available onboth the dual-
fuel anddieselmodels, and a
10-tondeck carrying capacity,
make thismachine especially
versatile,Manitowoc said.
“Rental outlets are really
finding theCD5515-2 to
be a dynamic tool in their
fleets,” saidMikeHeinrich,
director of sales for industrial
cranes andnational accounts

“Customers are driving
demand for rental cranes in
the 9- to 25-ton range. This
carrydeck crane falls squarely
in themiddle.”

H&E Equipment Services has
consolidated its Baltimore and
Jessup,MD branch operations
into one, newly constructed
15-acre, 40,000-square-foot
facility at 2111Grays Road,
Dundalk,MD. It will serve the
entire states of Maryland,
Delaware and theWashington
D.C. area. A large portion
of the new building has been
devoted to the product support
side of the businesswith 18
service bays and a 9,000
square-foot partswarehouse.
The branch specializes in
heavy earthmoving equipment,
cranes, aerial lifts, telescopic
forklifts and general
construction equipment.
