Terex warns about
counterfeit cranes
TerexCraneshas confirmed
that there are counterfeit
versions ofTerex crawler
cranemodels originating from
SouthKorea. Similar to the
incident reports of 2013 from
China, theTerexCC2500-1
latticeboom crawler crane is
themodel of choice for the
copycatmanufacturers.
Theunits are assembled,
branded and sold asused
Terex cranes at priceswell
undermarket value and are
eitherpaintedwhiteusing the
Terexbrandor redusing the
Demagbrand.
“This is a serious situation,
not onlybecause this infringes
onour intellectual property
but,more importantly, it poses
a serious safety risk for our
customers. Theuseof these
inferior, counterfeit cranes can
result indeadly consequences”
saidKlausMeissner, director
of product strategy forTerex.
Whilemade to look like
Terexunits, thesepirated
cranes areoften assembled
with ablendof older and
newer technology and
componentsnot designed to
work together.Counterfeit
cranes frequently exhibit poor
weldquality, inferior steel
structures and improperly
fitted tracks.Manyof the
safety componentsdesigned
intogenuineTerex cranes are
missing.
“Unfortunatelygoingby
serial number alonewill not
determinewith certaintyyou
arebuying agenuineTerex
crane, as theseplates canbe
fake aswell,” saidMeissner.
“Manyof the counterfeit
craneswerepurchased either
without anon-site inspection
or through an inspection
conductedby anunqualified
person.”
Meissnerhad advice for
those entering theused crane
market inAsian countries. “If
thedeal seems toogood tobe
true, it probably is,”he said.

Move USA
The Specialized Carriers
&Rigging Association
(SC&RA), KHL Group and
theNational Commission for
the Certification of Crane
Operators (NCCCO) are jointly
organizing a new event to
promote careers in the U.S.
crane, rigging and specialized
transportation industries.
Lift &Move USA, to be held
in Chicago, June 16 and 17
of this year, will provide high
school students and young
people studying at community
and technical collegeswith
expert advice on careers and
job opportunitiesworking
with crane rental companies,
specialized transportation
businesses and equipment
manufacturers.
The event will comprise
a two-day program, with
sessions on types of jobs
available, expected salaries,
career progression, and
opportunities for certification,
aswell as case studies
showing the types of activities
inwhich employers are
engaged.

launched a trailer concept
calledDualMax, allowing
U.S. customers topurchase
the trailerwithout infringing
upon the 897patent.
Also, Faymonville
announced theHighwayMAX,
an extendibleon-road
heavyhaul trailerwith
9hydraulically steered
pendulum axles and a
technical payloadof 260,000
pounds. TheHighwayMAX,
designed for special
commodity transport,was
developed tomeet the
specific requirements of the
trucking andhauling industry
in theU.S. andCanada. It
fully complieswithnational
regulations in respect to axle
groupdimensions, allowing a
maximumpayload, according
to the company.
The trailer canbe retracted
to attain a truck/trailer
lengthnot to exceed90 feet,
eliminating theneed for
escorts inmost states and
provinces. TheHighwayMAX
has a low tareweight of
approximately62,500pounds
with a loadingplatform that
canbe extendedup to89-feet,
2 inches.
