FEBRUARY 2014
CONEXPO
PLANNING GUIDE
will feature about a dozen or so cranes,
with eight of them brand new. Visitors can
expect to see two new “show stopping”
crawler cranes, according to Manitowoc.
The company said it is keeping details
about these two models under wraps until
the show.
Grove will launch the RT540 rough-
terrain crane, as was reported in
ACT’
s
January issue. The 40-ton capacity crane is
an upgrade of the popular RT540E model
and features a new cab, a new control
system and an improved swing system.
The crane is designed to give rental
companies and contractors a versatile tool
that is quick to set up and easy to use.
The Grove RT540 is the third crane to
feature Manitowoc’s new Crane Control
System (CCS), a standardized operator
interface that will eventually be rolled out
on all new Manitowoc, Potain, National
Crane, Shuttlelift and Grove cranes.
Other new models on the Manitowoc
stand include two new boom trucks from
National Crane, including the NBT60, the
largest ever built by the company. This
60-ton capacity crane features a 128-foot
boom, the longest in its class. Even with
the larger size of the NBT60, the crane
will still be roadable without the need for
additional permits in most parts of North
America.
Rounding out the mobile crane
contingent on Manitowoc’s booth is the
CD5520 industrial crane, the largest in
the range. The crane, from the Shuttlelift
brand, offers a 20-ton maximum capacity
and a 54-foot, 6-inch main boom. The
crane’s design is totally new and will act as
a template for future models from both the
Shuttlelift and YardBoss brands.
Potain
The Manitowoc Potain brand of tower
cranes will be represented with a new
luffing jib tower crane plus the world’s
largest self-erecting crane. The MR 418
luffing jib crane is the first in a new line
from the company. It’s ideal for working
on power stations or super tall buildings,
and can be fitted with the giant 201 kW
(270 hp) 320 LVF 120 hoist.
The new Igo T 130 self-erecting crane
has a 164-foot jib, which gives it strong
coverage of small and medium-sized
jobsites. It can also vary its working height,
depending on project requirements.
Manitowoc expects that the crane will
strongly appeal to customers with
experience with the older Potain HDT
80, one of the most popular self-erecting
cranes ever to work in North America.
Liebherr
Liebherr, in a huge 50,000-square-foot
booth, will exhibit more than 20 machines
including construction equipment and
cranes. Cranes displayed include two
tower cranes and six mobile and crawler
cranes.
For the first time on display at ConExpo,
Liebherr will present various components
from the mechanical, hydraulic and
electronic drive systems areas.
The new LTM 1300-6.2 all-terrain crane
is the successor to the LTM 1250-6.1. Its
telescopic boom has been extended by 20
feet to 256 feet. Its load capacity has also
been increased. The new LTM 1300-6.2
from Liebherr is the most powerful mobile
crane in the 360-ton class available on the
market, Liebherr said.
On the one hand it is designed as a
simple folding jib crane while on the other
