here are a number of remote
controls for cranes on the
market and their use is far
and wide – from controlling overhead
cranes, self-erecting tower cranes
and even conventional cranes such as
industrial cranes, boom trucks and
telescopic crawlers. Remote controls are
purchased with cranes for many reasons,
according to Ed Hisrich, vice president
sales/customer support, Tadano
Mantis Corp.
All Tadano Mantis cranes have the
option of remote control use, Hisrich
said. Remote controls can be utilized
to control a crane from a work
platform as well as perform lifts from
limited visibility or blind spots, where
an operator in the seat cannot see
the load.
“For our Model 20010, during the
erection of the crane (self rigging), a
remote control system is utilized for
operating the hydraulic jacking
cylinders as well as operation of
extending and retracting the track
frames,” Hisrich said. “We offer
remote control systems in multiple
configurations and multiple frequencies
to meet various local codes and
customer-control requirements. Remotely
controlled functions can be limited to
specific functions or can be custom
Many different types of cranes,
including tower cranes, can be
controlled remotely, for rigging and
set-up and for full operation.
