ALL TERRAIN CRANES
PRODUCT FOCUS
Now, their new ATC-3210 will fit
between their 140-ton truck crane and the
275-ton all terrain crane.
“It’s logical that customers are not going
to be happy with just one size. Fleet
owners want commonality, so it makes
sense for us to build more models than
just one,” said Curnutte.
“The fact that we’ve got all the mobility
issues figured out is a benefit,” he added,
explaining that while most ATs of this
size have to travel with six equipment
loads along with extra fuel and crews,
Link-Belt’s ATs need just four. “Customers
have to take that into consideration when
looking at the costs.”
Mobility and power
Manitowoc Cranes will feature two
of its largest and most successful
Grove all-terrain cranes at ConExpo:
the GMK6300L and the new Grove
GMK6400.
The GMK6400 is being marketed as the
lifting industry’s most powerful six-axle
crane. Its 450-ton lifting capacity is the
highest of any crane in its class and it has
a variety of cutting-edge features that the
company says can’t be found elsewhere.
Astrid Hager-Guthrie, global product
director for all-terrain cranes, said the
GMK6400 boasts a variety of upgrades
that will help customers increase
efficiency, while it remains easy to use.
“We’re very excited to show the
GMK6400 at ConExpo,” Hager-Guthrie
said. “It has the best load chart in its class,
a new drive system for the carrier never
seen in this size category and a host of
other unique features that won it the
ESTA Innovation award at Bauma 2013
in Munich, Germany – features such as
the capacity-enhancing Mega-Wing-Lift
attachment that can boost the crane’s
capacity by almost 70
percent, from 38
metric tons to 64
the job site. It commands a large lifting
capacity and long reach, while its compact
footprint enables it to fit into tight
working quarters.”
Attention gettters
While all terrain cranes will get plenty of
attention at ConExpo, turning looks into
sales is a whole other matter.
“It’s a pretty finite market, but it is
significant,” said Jay Shiffler, vice president
and general manager of marketing for
Tadano America. “It’s a very identifiable
market with 90 percent sold to crane
rental companies.”
Shiffler said the AT market has been
active because of demand for the cranes in
the oil fields. “It may be flat this year, but
it’s still active,” he said. As such, Tadano
will continue to expand its AT line. “We’ll

metric tons (42 tons to 71 tons) at 60

Manitowoc’s GMK6300L, 350-ton all
terrain crane has won customers on five
continents with its 262-foot boom, the
longest in its class, said Hager-Guthrie.
“The GMK6300L has been a huge success
for Manitowoc, so it’s only
fitting that the crane be
featured at ConExpo. It’s a
