CONEXPO
PLANNING GUIDE
F
or some exhibitors at the
ConExpo-ConAgg tradeshow, it’s
all about the element of surprise.
The strategy is to keep their equipment
and services under wraps until the gates
are officially opened on the first morning
of the show – a veritable “ta-da” moment.
For others, the strategy is the
opposite. The idea is to release
their entire show plan, including
all the equipment they will exhibit,
several months in advance to build
excitement among their customers
about their booths.
Lastly there’s the strategy to drip
feed the market with news about
new machines and services that will be
launched at ConExpo.
Regardless of which strategy is chosen,
they all work beautifully.
For several months, our KHL and
ACT
editorial teams have been talking with the
major crane, specialized lifting, transport,
rigging gear and related services
companies about their ConExpo plans,
and trying to get them to share with us
the plans for their exhibits.
For our February ConExpo coverage,
we are focusing on what’s new in the
crane, rigging and transport sector.
While this isn’t a comprehensive
list of everything new
at ConExpo, our
coverage centers on
Hisrich said the concept behind the
development of the GTC‐1200 was to
design and build a telescopic boom
crawler crane that met the requirements
of the power transmission, bridge and
civil and foundation construction while
expanding the broader appeal of the crane
toward lift crane-based markets.
While the GTC-1200 design was
managed by the Tadano Mantis
engineering team in Franklin, TN, the
crane is a collaboration of the engineering
teams of Tadano LTD and Tadano Faun
Gmbh and utilizes the strengths of each
group while maintaining the Tadano
Mantis core competencies, Hisrich said.
The resulting model GTC-1200
represents a step forward in design for
Tadano Mantis, including a full power
round boom with two extension modes,
Hello-Net telematics, the Tadano AML‐C
load moment system and integration
of hydraulic cylinders, winches and
jib systems from the other Tadano
companies.
The full power, 5‐section 42.1 foot to
155 foot boom was designed to perform
well for lift work, while also being
capable of out‐of‐level, pick‐and‐carry,
and foundation work. The main boom
is complimented with a jib system that
includes a 12.5-foot heavy lift jib with a
maximum capacity of 44 tons, which is
part of the standard bi‐fold jib that has

what we’ve been able to uncover over the
past few months. The order in which this

Tadano Mantis
New from Tadano Mantis is the 130-
ton capacity GTC‐1200 telescopic
crawler. It will be the largest capacity
crane in the Tadano Mantis product
range and “represents the first
blank sheet design since Mantis
was acquired by Tadano in 2008,”
according to Ed Hisrich, vice
president, sales and customer
support.
“By utilizing the global synergies
among the Tadano Group
Companies to bring this new
design to completion, we are
bringing forth the best and
strongest crane we have ever
introduced,” he said.
The new 130-ton
capacity GTC-1200
will be the largest
telescopic crawler
in the Tadano
Mantis line.
