About a year ago, the
Lampson team took a look at
its 100-plus fleet ofManitowoc
4100 crawlers. The cranes,
althoughout of production,
are still functional and
popular amongoperators. The
decision that needed tobe
madewaswhether to replace
or remanufacture the fleet of
4100s.
Lampson’s engineering
group looked at theproblem
and tookon theproject of
remanufacturing the first unit.
The result is theLampson
4100Millennium crawler,
which combines the structural
integrity andversatilityof
theManitowoc 4100with the
safety and easeof operationof
the latest generationhydraulic
operating system cranes.

retained.Operating controls
havebeenmodernizedwith
computer-enhanced joysticks
controlling all operating
functions of the crane. The
control system allows tandem

for situations requiring
endless reeving. The cranes
are equippedwithLSI load
monitoring systems to further
enhance safe lift operations.
Lampson’sBruce Stemp said
thenewLampsonMillennium
4100meets or exceeds the
capabilities of all cranes in
the 230-ton capacity class at a
muchmore economical price
point.
“You can alsouse all the
Ringer attachments to
increase the capacity to
300 tons,”he said. “It also
accepts theManitowocTower
attachment.”
Bill Lampson said that
initially the goal of theproject
was to remanufacture the
cranes forLampson’s own
rental fleet.
“Initially,we arenot offering
them for sale althoughwe
have already soldone,”
he said. “We are trying to
remanufactureour rental fleet,
butweknowpeople are going
to come tous andwant tobuy
them.”
Alsonew to the crane is the
cab,whichLampson saidwas
designed “from scratch”with
the goal ofmaking it user
friendly and ergonomically
comfortable. Stemp said
interest in the crane, both for
rental andpurchase, has been
strong.

Garciamoves huge
storage tanks to
Bayamon, PuertoRico
Heavy lifting and a transportation challengewas not a detour for
Garcia TruckingService, Inc. to accept themassive project of
transporting31 LPG above-ground90,000WG storage tanks from
the San Juan, PuertoRico Port to Puma Energy Caribe’s newest
storage facilities inBayamon, PuertoRico.
With a total length of 177 feet, the haul presented a huge
challengemoving through the narrow streets and sharp turns.
The route involved three police zones, making the road escort
coordination a project in itself. GTS used two6-axle steerable dollies
and two75-tonmanual bolster configurations provided by Beyel
Brothers.
All rigging and transportationwas done at night, which is a normal
occurance for Garcia TruckingService’s business in PuertoRico.
