Aggreko has won a landmark 80 MW power
contract in Panama, providing power as
a licenced generator to the country’s
wholesale electricity market. “This is, we
believe, the first time that a temporary
power supplier has entered a country’s
wholesale electricity market competing
with permanent power generators”, said
the company. Aggreko also announced
it will provide temporary power for the
2014 Commonwealth games, to be held in
Glasgow, UK this July, and this summer’s
World Cup in Brazil.

Loxam has boosted its Danish
operations and entered the Norwegian
and Swedish markets for the first
time with the acquisition of Dansk
Lift, the Danish powered access rental
company. The deal, for an undisclosed
price, was signed before Christmas.
The acquisition gives Loxam a
business with revenues of around €17
million in 2012 and with six depots in
Denmark and four in Norway, where it
operated under the Safelift name. It
has one branch in Sweden, in Malmö.
Loxam has operated a business
in Denmark since 2007, which the
acquisition will boost to 19 branches.
All the Dansk Lift branches will be
renamed as Loxam and it will take on
Dansk Lift’s 80 employees.
Dansk Lift operated the Hertz
equipment rental franchises in
Denmark and Norway.
Gérard Déprez, chairman and CEO
of Loxam, said: “The acquisition of
this company, with operations also in
Norway and Sweden, will help Loxam
strengthen the position of its Danish
subsidiary and continue expanding
internationally.”
Petter Hagen, CEO of Dansk Lift, adds:
“I am very proud that the company I
have managed over the past 11 years
now joins forces with the European
leader. I strongly believe that this
transaction provides my staff with
career enhancing opportunities.”
Speedy’s Corcoran resigns
over Middle East problems
Steve Corcoran has resigned as chief
executive of Speedy Hire following
the revelation that there have
been accounting regularities at its
International division in the Middle
East.
Speedy has suspended the finance
director of the division and other
senior divisional managers are
currently the subject of further
investigation after £4.5 – 5.0 million
was found to be mis-stated in
the accounts. Mr Corcoran is not
implicated and will remain at the
business pending the appointment of
a new chief executive.
Speedy said “certain control
processes within the International
Division have been repeatedly and
deliberately circumvented”. The
issues relate to a limited number of
small contracts and not to the major
contracts with Zadco and Al Futtaim
Carillion.
Addleshaw Goddard has been
engaged to conduct an independent
legal investigation and Deloitte
has been appointed as forensic
accountant.
“At this point no final conclusions
can be drawn as to the timeframe
nor the results of the above
investigations”, said Speedy in a
stock exchange release.
See page 32 for a special report on
Speedy’s major project to reorganise
its UK dept network.
