Hilti said the new fifth generation of its
7kg class combihammers have improved
productivity, durability and operator
comfort. The TE 70 AVR follows on
from four previous generations of 7kg
combihammers – the TE 72, TE 76 and
two versions of the TE 70 – and offers
increased performance, with 11.5 J of
impact energy compared to 10.5 J on
the previous model. Operator comfort
is improved, with the use of AVR (active

Portakabin has acquired Oecon
Mobilraum GmbH, a manufacturer
and distributor of modular buildings
in Germany, as part of its strategy
to expand its mainland European
business. The price was not disclosed.
Oecon has been building and renting
portable accommodation units for
more than 20 years and is located
in Bartholomä, east of Stuttgart in
southern Germany. It sells in Germany
and Austria from six locations.
The acquisition gives Portakabin
a significant inroad into Germany to
add to its existing sales and rental
operations in France, Belgium and the
Netherlands.
Portakabin said Oecon would
complement the current European
operations and give routes to the
German market for its modular
buildings in the office, healthcare and
education sectors.
Derek Carter, chief executive of
Portakabin Group, said plans for the
future included further investment
in the rental fleet and more rental
locations in Germany; “The addition
of Oecon to our French, Belgian and
Dutch businesses will expand our
European footprint and capability
considerably and provide Oecon with
the opportunity to grow within the
German market and in new market
sectors.
Joachim Full, managing director
of Oecon, said the financial strength
and private ownership of Portakabin
would ensure long term investment
and security for the company and
its employees; “We look forward to
working with Portakabin as we expand
Oecon and the influence of Portakabin
within the German modular market”.

Coates sees mining fall
Coates Hire in Australia posted a 4%
decrease in its revenues for the year
to 30 June following a softer final
six months of the year, which saw a
decline in mining related activity in
the country, particularly in NewSouth
Wales.
The results released by Seven Group,
which owns 45% of Coates along with
other major shareholder Carlyle, show
that revenues were A$1241 million
(€831 million), with EBIT profits (before
interest and tax) down 15% at A$279.2
million (€187 million).
Don Voelte, the managing director
and CEO of Seven, said Coates had
been impacted by a softening in
demand in the second half of the
financial year; “Coates Hire has
responded by implementing a number
of restructuring initiatives.”
Seven is also the 100% owner of
pump, power and lighting tower
manufacturer Allight Sykes, where
sales were down 26% to A$155.8
million (€104 million) for the year,
again because of a slowdown in the
mining sector. The business is now
engaged on “some major restructuring
and property consolidation initiatives.”
Coates Hire has meanwhile acquired
the general rentals business assets
of Force Group in Townsville,
Queensland and Darwin, Northern
Territory.
The deal means Force Group has
exited the general rental business
to focus on aerial platform rental,
under the name Force Access,
where it is second only to Coates
with a fleet of more than 4500
units.
