Its current focus includes hydrostatic-
mechanical power-split transmissions.
The company has confirmed the
first version to be developed is a
gearbox designed specifically for
mobile machinery that can fulfil strict
requirements in terms of dynamic
performance and reversing.
Liebherr has investigated the specific
requirements for an optimum power-
split transmission and then designed a
customised transmission based on this,
which is still in its testing phase.
Klaus Graner, managing director
for development and engineering at
Liebherr-components, said thecompany’s
present researchprogrammewouldprove
decisive to its design strategy.

elaz has claimedSwedish steel producer SSAB’s 2014SwedishSteel Prize
for developing theworld’s largest dump truck, with a steerable axle and body
componentsmade from high strength steel.
TheBelaz 75710 dump truck has a payload of 450 tonnes, whichmakes it 25%more
productive than its second largestmachine, and reduces environmental impact per load. It
can also be operated in temperatures down to -60° C and at almost 5,000m above sea level.
“We saw that high-strength steel was the best choicewhenwe began discussing the
movable suspension,” said Vladimir Zagorsky, chief of suspension design engineering
department at Belaz.
He added, “The design called for four tires in both the front and rear, together with four-
wheel drive, which required a new suspension solution.”

He said, “The development of a hydrostatic-mechanical
power-split transmission is an important addition.
“Our solution is an impressive example of our system expertise
in the area of drives and hydraulics and we can enter entirely
newmarket segments with it.
“Initially, our system is specially targeted tomobileapplications
with high requirements regarding dynamics and reversing.
Adaptations to further applicationprofiles are already planned.”
Within the field of driveshafts, GKN Land Systems has
launched its new inverted slip design driveshaft range known as
Synergy, aimed at the construction andmining industries.
Launched at ConExpo, it has been developed by linking
existing off-highway technology created by the company from
itsMechanics seriesU-Joints range.
ProductspecialistBenRavenscroft, said,“TheSynergyrange isa
natural evolutionof existingGKNproduct innovationwithnew
features andbenefits tooffer significant advantages to customers
in the off-highwaymarket. In themain these improvementswill
reduce the need for servicing and maintenance, and maximize
uptime and productivity.”
Another company making strides with transmission
component has beenDana, which exhibited at BaumaChina.
Among its key developments has been its off-highway Spicer
Rui MaTZL 15 RM transmission for the local wheeled-loader
market.
Liebherr is presently testing new
transmission systems.
GKN has just launched it new driveshaft range.
