The access sector also saw a broad
range of new launches. JLG
launchedwhat it claimedwas the
world’s largest self-propelled boom
lift at ConExpo.The 185 ft (56.4
m) platformheight 1850SJ offers
19 stories of working height and an
80 ft (24m) outreach.
The JLG 1850SJ offers a
maximum capacity of 1,000 lbs
(454 kg) and extends to full height
in less thanfiveminutes.However,
its designdrew some controversy at
the show (see box story, p. 54).
Skyjack debuted a new
electrically powered rough terrain
scissor lift, the SJ6832RTE. It said
themachine is themost compact
platform of its type on themarket
that is capable of lifting 1,000 lbs
(454 kg) to 32 ft (9.75m).
AndTeupen launched its new
TL63A articulating boom lift.The
trackedunit has a 63 ft (19m)
working height with 550 lbs (249
kg) of platform capacity that can
reach 39 ft (11.9m) outward.
ChinesemanufacturerDingli also
exhibited its scissor and vertical
mast products inNorthAmerica
for the first time at ConExpo.The
company has been in theUS for
ten years withdealer Bellymore
but only for its push around stock
picker product.
NowDingli is actively seeking
a distributor for the scissor and
verticalmast lines, and said it
hopes to sell up to 1000 units there
in the next two years.
New telehandlersmodels
were also introduced at the
exhibition. JCBunveiled four
newunits – the compact 525-60
Hi-Viz telehandler; the 540-200
telehandler offeringwhat the
company says isNorthAmerica’s
highest reach at 66 ft (20m); the
high-capacity 560-80; and the
516-42, JCB’s first 16,000 lbs (7.2
tonne) capacity telehandler with a
lift height of 42 ft (12.8m).
The 516-42was designed for
NorthAmerican customers, the
company said, and is geared toward
oil and gasmarkets.
Optimism
The construction equipment
industrywas present enmass at
this year’s exhibition, and there
was a definite sense of optimism
and confidence in the air during
the show.The next ConExpo-Con/
AGG show is scheduled for 2017,
bywhich time it should be clear
whether or not this cautiously
up-beat outlook has actually been
reflected in real and sustained
growth for the industry.
