ConExpo review
TerexCranes,meanwhile,
unveiled theCrossover 8000, an
80 tonne capacity boom truck
that features the upper works of
theTerex 780 truck crane and
X-pattern outriggers.Mounted on
a Freightliner chassis, theCrossover
8000 is the largest capacity boom
truck available inNorthAmerica,
according toTerex.
Also new to theNorthAmerican
market was theTerexExplorer
5600, a 5-axle all-terrain crane
with a lifting capacity of 180 tons
(163 tonnes), while the 715 ton
(649 tone) capacityTerex Superlift
3800was also shown for the first
time inNorthAmerica.
Themodel was rigged inwhat
the company described as a power
plant configuration, featuring a
large ballast wagonwith an 86m
boom and 64m luffing jib.Terex
said the cranewas the tallest boom
ever showcased at ConExpo.
Demolition& recycling
Therewere also a range of
introductions to the demolition
and recycling sector. Caterpillar,
for instance, launched its thirdnew
generationmaterial handler in the
form of the 37.6 tonneMH3037.
Thismachine featuresCat’s
patented ‘ground entry and exit’
step in cab that lowers to the front
or the side of themachine that is
intended to enhance convenience
and safety for both operators and
service personnel.
ConExpo also saw the official
introduction of Allu’s twomodel
M Series crushing buckets that
have beendesigned for soft rock
applications in themining sector.
TheM33-20 andM3-32 have
been tailored for use on excavators
weighing from 50 to 80 tonnes
andwheeled loaders from 30 to
60 tonnes, although they can
be used on excavators up to 200
tonnes and larger wheeled loaders
up to 130 tonnes subject to
verification.
Sandvik’s Rammer brand also
usedConExpo to give its 5011
LargeHammer its officialNorth
American launch.Weighing in at
4,750 kg, this hammer is suitable
for use on carriers in the 43 to 80
tonne range.
It also used the show to unveil
what it said are key enhancements
to its Large Breakermodels.The
first of these involves its patented
lower tool bushings that now
features a bronze replaceable
bearing insert inside a re-useable
body sleeve.The use of bronze
helps to protect the tool surface
fromdamage.
Another highlight for the
demolition industrywas the
presence on theKobelco stand of
the company’s SK1000DLChigh
reach.Thismachineweighs in at
112 tonnes and offers amaximum
reach of 38m.
At the show, the company said it
would be bringing 19 variants of
its demolitionmachines into the
US, alongwith 12 scraphandlers,
over the next fewmonths.
