ntries are now being invited for the 2014 International
Construction Economic Forum (ICEF) awards. The
closingdate is30 June, and thewinnerswillbeannounced
at the ICEF gala dinner on the evening of 30October.
There are four categories, including the prestigious
International Construction Project of the Year, for schemes
of global significance with a value of more than US$ 100
million. In addition to this award, which was won last year by
Brookfield Multiplex’s JWMarriott Marquis hotel in Dubai,
UAE, a further category has been added for projects on amore
modest scale.
The International ConstructionAward for Innovative Smaller
Schemes is for construction projects with an inventive solution
or approach from the contractor, worth under US$ 100
million. The award is designed to recognise that construction
performance canbe improvedwith gains in safety, sustainability
and efficiency on any size of project.
Presentations on shortlisted schemes in both categories will
form part of the programme for ICEF 2014. Companies that
enter should therefore bear inmind that they may be asked to
give a presentation at ICEF.
In addition, there are two ICEF awards recognising advances
in the construction equipment sector.The ICEF Construction
Equipment Innovation Award is for new or cutting-edge
construction machinery, while the ICEF Construction
Equipment Design Innovation Award is for ground-breaking
design in equipment components or sub-systems, which deliver
a significant benefit to the final machine
All winners will be announced at the ICEF Gala Dinner, on
the evening ofThursday 30October, at theGloucesterHotel in
London. Shortlisted companies will receive two free tickets to
the event, and there will be the opportunity to buy additional
places.

ouglasMcWilliams is executive chairman
of the Centre for Economics and Business
Research (CEBR), and one of Europe’s foremost
forecasters of international economies. Hewas one
of the first figures to highlight the importance of the
rising economies in East Asia. Andmore recent work
has looked at the impact on the global economy of
developments in China.
He hasworked as an advisor to numerous
organisations, includingSiemens, Vodafone, Oracle,
Transport for London, CanaryWharf Group, andThe
CrownEstate. He is also an advisor to senior political
figures onboth sides of theUKparliament.
