Fraschini in Italyhavedesigned
andmanufactured anew
carbon fly jib. Theprototype
was launched at the Samoter
construction equipment
exhibition, inVerona, Italy.
Designed formobile
hydraulic cranes, the 14metre
fly jib ismadeof carbon fibre
reinforcedpolymer (CFRP).
It has two sections and is
connectedusingmetal pins.A
pivotinghead allows it tobe
offset at an angle.
“Themass of the arm
extension is reduced to50%
compared to a traditionalmetal
arm, due to the lightweight
compositematerial,” a
spokesperson said. This
can allowmobile cranes to
travelwithout special permit
requirementswhen travelling
with the fly jib.
Theprototype fly jibhas
completed load testing. Look
