Cuddy
invests in
recycling
facility
Welsh contractor Cuddy
Recycling is planning to
start work in early 2015 to
develop a recycling centre
that will see the creation
of 22 positions. The facility
on the site of the former
WernWorks in Briton Ferry
will be partially demolished
and redeveloped, subject to
planning approvals, to be the
sole facility able to handle
timber, plasterboard and
gypsum in southWales. The
investment will total £1.2
million (US$1.9million), with
£228,000 (US$364million)
coming from theWelsh
Economic Growth Fund.
Cuddy Recycling’sMike
Cuddy is reported as
saying: “we aremaking a
considerable investment
in the new facility and are
grateful for the support of
theWelsh Government.
There is a real market need
inWales for a facility capable
of recycling construction,
demolition and earthworks
waste as currently some
waste products have to be
transported to theMidlands
in England for disposal.
We are keen to introduce
some very green sustainable
recycling initiatives and
provide a first class service
for companies inWales and
parts of England.We are
currently working withNatural
ResourcesWales to attain all
the necessary environmental
permits to operate a licensed
wastemanagement facility
with a view to commence
work in spring 2015.”

Rapid Vienna fans got the
chance to help demolish
the football club’s Gerhard
Hanappi Stadium by removing
seats, portions of wall, netting
from the goals and turf during
an ‘open’ day on October 4.
They were charged for the
privilege –

19.77 (US$24.9)
for a seat,
€
18.99 (US$24)
for net and
€
5 (US$6.3) for a
piece of turf. A new 22,000
seat stadium is currently
under construction for the
club.

At its AGM the IDE
announced the introduction
of a Technician grade of
membership of the Institute.
Terry Quarmby told attendees
that the new Technician
Grade: “sits in between an
Entrant Member and an
AssociateMember. To be
accepted at the new grade,
one needs to be in full time
employment in the industry
for aminimum of five years,
be the holder of a Gold Card
(supervisor status) or a
Manager’s Card and have
their CPD status fully up to

New face of the NDA
TheUSNationalDemolition
Association (NDA)has entered
anew erawith theappointment
of anew executivedirector,
CherylCaulfield, IOM,CAE, an
executivewith theNDA’snew
management firmSmithBucklin.
This appointment followson from
the retirement of theoutgoing
executivedirectorMikeTaylor
after 25years in the role.Current
NDApresident JeffKroeker said
ina statement: “Ihave every
confidence that operationsof the
organisationwill continuewithout
interruptionduring the transition
of responsibilities fromMike to
Cheryl.Onceagain, I thankMike
forhis commitment to the success

Cherylwill takeon the full role
of executivedirector following

secondary location.

of association experience,
includingamixof advocacy,
member education,membership
development, financial
management andmeetings
management experience. She
has also spent anumberof years
working forbuildingand real
estateassociations, including
several years at theUSNational
AssociationofHomeBuilders
(NAHB),where shewasboth
a senior vicepresident for
government affairs and, before
that, vicepresident for theNAHB
Builder20Clubs.
