A
survey of US contractors
found
that
more
than
two
thirds
of
respondents were experiencing
significant
improvements
in
project information mobility on
construction projects.
Advances in the exchange
of project information have
helped support productivity
improvements in the construction
industry, such as collaboration
and the use of BIM (building
information modelling).
However, the survey found
that many firms were still
experiencing
challenges,
especially with improving the
flow of information to and from
the jobsite.
The survey, conducted by
McGraw Hill Construction, found
that better collaboration and
improved productivity were
the top benefits identified by
respondents.
The details of the survey
were presented to the Year in
Infrastructure 2013 Conference,
organised annually by software
company Bentley Systems.
The conference this year was
held in London, UK, and featured
the company’s Be Inspired
Awards, as well as details of a
number of software launches.
Among the new products
from Bentley were two that the
company said would “extend the
reach of Bentley’s comprehensive
portfolio and expedite access for
Bentley users” – SELECT Open
Access and MANAGEservices
SELECT Open Access is a no-cost
opt-in program for existing
SELECT subscribers. It provides
access to any Bentley information
modelling application at any
time.
COO Malcolm Walter said,
“For over a decade, subscribers
of Bentley’s Enterprise Licence
Subscription (ELS) have had
full access to our portfolio,
without incremental licensing
requirements, and they’ve told
us how well this aligns with their
project needs.
“Now, with SELECT Open
Access, we can bring the same
benefits to every user in every
subscriber organisation.”
