ICUEE REVIEW
Sticks
and booms
ICUEE was bursting at the seams with attendees and
exhibitors this year.
Lindsey Anderson
reports from the show.
A
variety of booms filled the skies Oct.
1-3 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in
Louisville during the 2013 International
Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition
(ICUEE). All different types and sizes of
equipment targeted to the utility industry were
on display, with a number of new units being
introduced by Bronto Skylift, Elliott and Terex
Aerial Work Platforms.
According to AEM, 2013 ICUEE was by all
measures an outstanding success and one
of the largest and most comprehensive ever,
with registered attendance of more than
17,500, surpassing the last show, held in
2011. Participants came from all 50 states, all
10 Canadian provinces and 50 other countries
worldwide.
“We hope the great turnout and participation at
this year’s ICUEE points to more sustainable and
broader industry growth,” said Sara Truesdale
Mooney, ICUEE show director.
ICUEE 2013 had a record 862 exhibitors, and
the show floor hit a record 1,173,957 net square
feet, including co-located H20-XPO and iP Utility
Safety Conference & Expo.
“ICUEE is known as a venue for utility and
contractor professionals to meet face to face
with their industry peers across the country
and worldwide to exchange information,”
Mooney said. “There were numerous new
product introductions, and we heard many
favorable comments from both attendees and
exhibitors about the high caliber of the 2013
show and the high-quality professional support
from AEM as show owner and producer. The
indoor and outdoor exhibits offered the ultimate
in comparison shopping for new products
and equipment, with the hands-on product
demonstrations that are a hallmark of ICUEE.”
New Equipment
Bronto Skylift used ICUEE to exhibit its new S
230 XDT telescopic and articulated aerial work
platform. The unit features a maximum working
height of 230 feet (70 m), a maximum working
outreach of 115 feet (35 m) and a safe working
load of 300 to 1,400 pounds.
The ICUEE model was mounted on a Mack
truck; a “first in the industry,” noted Bill
Hindman, president of Bronto’s marketing
partner Industrial Marketing Systems (IMS).
The S 230 XDT features an extendable deck,
giving workers more room in the basket.
Like all models in the XDT range, the S 230
XDT has fully variable H-type jacking, fully
automatic jacking and leveling with remote
control, 6.5-inch color displays at all control
panels, 90-degree cage rotation, two alternative

“Terex was pleased to once again exhibit
at ICUEE. As always, the crowds were very
engaged and extremely interested in what’s
new in the utility industry. ICUEE is an ideal
show for us to reinforce our commitment to
providing the right equipment to our utility
customers, when they need it, supported
with the very best service and rapid-
response capabilities. Our customer-centric
approach enabled us to focus our time and
attention during all three days of the show
in showcasing to our customers how our
innovative products and services improve
jobsite conditions, save on operational costs
and help deliver a profitable return-on-
investment.”
JIM LOHAN, vice president of sales and
marketing, Terex Utilities
“Elliott had an outstanding ICUEE. The
products we displayed, which were
centered on our transmission construction
solutions, were very well received by those
in attendance. We had an excellent turnout
in out booth. Several people commented
about the breadth of our products on display
(the variety of working heights and crane
and digging capacities) and we received
many positive comments on some of our
technological innovations. With regard to the
E160, people liked the platform design and
also the exceptional reach of the machine.
The control performance was also a point
of excitement with those who are already
familiar with our products. Overall, we were
very pleased with the reception this product
received. The show in general was Elliott’s
best ICUEE ever. We look forward to building
off the enthusiasm around our company and
products that the show generated in the
utility industry over the next two years.”

Hetronic showed its wireless controls
outfitted for a scissor lift at ICUEE.
Socage showcased three units this year,
compared to their last showing at ICUEE of only
one piece of equipment. The North American
market continues to be an area of interest and
growth for the Italian manufacturer.
