ALL TERRAINCRANES
PRODUCT FOCUS
“Due tobuildingheights inNewYork
City, boom lengthhas always been a
crucial factor in choosingwhichmodels
topurchase,” saidWeiss. “Ournewest
crane, theLiebherrLTM1300-6.2, is
the replacement for the venerableLTM
1250-6.1,whichwas always oneof the
most popular cranes inNewYorkCity.
Whatmade that crane so specialwas that
it offered thebest of bothworlds: on the
onehand, it provided all thebenefits of a
taximachinewith swing-away jib; on the
other, it offered a luffing jib for reaches
only a larger crane could achieve.”
With theLTM1300-6.2, all of the
advantages of its predecessor havebeen
maintained, but in a crane that boasts
amuch longer 258-foot telescopic
boom and a load chartwith far superior
capacities. It has amaximum lifting
capacityof 661,400pounds at a10-foot
radius and aboom lengthof 256 feet.
One or two engines
There’s a lot of new technology and
products in theATmarket.Manyof
them aredrivenbyEPA andEuropean
rules on emissions. Cranes havehad to
be redesigned to accept thenewTier
IV interimor final engines and frames
thenneeded tobe redesignedbecause
additional exhausts elements added
weight to the cranes. Somemanufactures
likeLiebherr andManitowoc/Grove are
going to single enginedesignswhich can
alternatebetweenusing a lot of horse
power duringmobilization and less horse
powerwhileon the job.
Manitowoc/Grove’s rangeofGMK
models spans 55 tons to550 tons. Their
newest offering in the five-axle class is the
GMK5275.With a223-foot, seven section
boom and a luffing jib attachment, this
crane competeswith the verybest of the
ATmarket.
“Every time someonebuys a crane they
have todeterminewhether that crane
makes sense for their region,” said Ingo
Schiller, senior vicepresident,Manitowoc.
“AT’s are extremelyversatilemachines.
They’re certainlynot recessionproof but
they tend to staybusybecause they’renot
just used in construction, they’reused for
maintenance,modifications andmore.”
TheATmarket is alive andwell in
NorthAmerica, andwithno shortageof
HVACunits or rockquarries, thedemand
for thesemachines isnot likely to fade
anytime soon.
Crane Inc’s new Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 all
terrain cranewill take over for their older
LTM 1250-6.1model, which saw a ton of
work inNew York City for years due to its
versatility.
