West Coast Contractors
is beginning work to build
a new dock at Lower
Granite Dam on the lower
Snake River, working as
the major subcontractor
for a joint venture between
general contractors Garco
Construction and Total Site
Services. WCC will build
a new dock to handle the
increased number of barges
added in recent years. In
order to minimize the risk of
disturbing fish populations,
WCC must complete all
water-based construction
between December 15th
and February 28th. They will
be moving equipment to the
site and begin the upland
portion of work in November,
utilizing their 100 and 160
ton cranes.

convenience.”
“Altec has a customer-
focused product development
process,” said Matt Trefz,
market manager for Altec
Cranes. “When we started the
45-ton project, customers told
us they needed more capacity
beyond a 25-foot load radius,
a solid feel at a 100-foot load
radius and road transport
without weight permits. It’s
difficult to balance conflicting
requirements, and our
engineering team was able to
deliver what I think is the best
45-ton boom truck available
with a stronger chart, better
feel and attractive payload
compared to alternative
products.”
The AC45-127S is
built with features
that set a new benchmark
in jobsite safety, Trefz said.
Features like the lower winch
control, front entry cab and
engine start/stop at the tail
shelf minimize slip/trip/fall
hazard exposure, he said.
“The tilt cab feature improves
visibility and reduces operator
neck strain and associated
fatigue,” said Trefz. “A service-
driven design simplifies
preventative maintenance and
reduces downtime. The LMI
reel is mounted at the boom
heel and protected by a metal
cover while the A2B cable
is routed through the boom
providing better reliability.”
Other features include a 127-
foot, 5-section boom, a 55-foot
telescopic jib and improved
cycle times.
Altec will launch the new
45-ton AC45-127S at
ICUEE October 1-3.

ACT
has exclusively learned
that Altec Industries, Inc.
will launch the AC45-127S
telescopic boom crane at
ICUEE in October. The
company says the new crane

Sway Control is a Konecranes
control feature that has been
designed to minimize the
load from swinging during
overhead crane travel. Sway
Control has been designed
for a safer means to move
loads at higher speeds while
positioning the load more
accurately. Operators can
also apply faster speeds in
process areas where the
crane or trolley traditionally
requires operation at slower
speeds, even close to walls.
Mexican Army purchases
National Crane boom truck
The Mexican Army has
purchased its first National
Crane boom truck, a 40-ton
capacity NBT 40, to help
maintain its fleet of tanks
and aircraft and to assist in
emergency response work,
including storm-related
damage.
The NBT40 helped repair
a damaged airplane. Among
several lifts, the crane
removed a 16-ton engine from
the aircraft at a height of 32.8
feet (10 meters).
Guadalajara, Mexico-based
TRACSA Group, a Grove
and National Crane dealer,
worked with the Mexican
Army to determine the best
boom truck to purchase.
Juan Mejia, crane manager
at TRACSA, said the NBT 40
was a smart purchase for the
army because of the crane’s
operating abilities and quality
construction.
“The army chose this
crane because it offers more
impressive load charts than
its competitors and is made
from higher-quality materials,”
Mejia said.
The NBT 40 has a color
graphical LMI display, and
boom length options are: 103,
127 or 142 feet.
