Murray Pollok and Helen Wright provide a preview to the
Conexpo-Con/Agg exhibition, taking place in Las Vegas,
US, on 4 to 8 March, and expected to be the largest
construction show in the world this year.
C
onexpo-Con-Agg, the three-yearly ‘big show’
held in Las Vegas, may be a North American
exhibition but it has global pull, in particular
for equipment buyers from Central and South
America.
The more than 130000 visitors expected by show
organiser Association of Equipment Manufacturers
(AEM) will have lots to see from the more than 2400
companies that will be exhibiting. In fact, more than

the use of the new engine offers “higher levels
of fuel efficiency and reduces the impact on the
environment.”
That is one of the machine’s that JLG is willing to
talk about in advance, although the access industry
is wondering if the manufacturer plans to unveil a
very large boom in response to the introduction last
year of Terex AWP’s 180 ft model.
Tier 4 Final will be a major thrust for manufacturers
like Caterpillar and Volvo, with Tier 4 Final-compliant
Cat equipment on show including a new range of
wheeled loaders.
Volvo CE, meanwhile, says Conexpo will set the
stage for the launch of its Tier 4 Final/Stage IV engine
technology as well as its “most innovative range of
machines and services to date”. New equipment on
show would include the E-Series excavators, G-Series
articulated haulers and H-Series wheeled loaders.

What we can say with certainty is that a main
theme for the week will be new Tier 4 Final launches,
machines using engines designed to comply with
the latest emission regulations. For the EU and US,
engines rated between 130 kW and 560 kW will be
affected in 2014, with the 75 kW to 130 kW power band
following from 2015.
Engine manufacturer Cummins, for instance, will
showcase its new, Tier 4 Final-compliant, 63 to
98 kW QSF3.8 engine and the larger, 250 to
382 kW QSG12 models, as well as its aftertreatment
technology that help the engines comply with the
stringent emissions limits. Cummins said it would
also showcase some of the first Tier 4 Final ready
gensets in the industry, together with a power
generation trailer for the rental market.
JLG will also have Tier 4 Final machines on its stand,
including the G5-18A super compact telehandler. JLG
notes - as will many other manufacturers - that
