T
hemonths sinceMarch’s
ConExpo-Con/Agg
exhibition inLasVegas, US
has seen JCB roll out newproducts
across numerous product ranges.
They include tracked, wheeled
andmidi excavators, wheeled
loaders, telescopic handlers, rough
terrain forklifts, new variants to
its backhoe loaders and generators
from JCBPower Products.
Perhaps one of themost
interesting areas is themidi
excavator segment. It is a difficult
area to define, but the general
meaning of ‘midi’ is bigger than a
mini excavator, but smaller than
mainstream excavators, so about 6
to 10 tonnes operatingweight.
New additions in this area
include the 6.5 tonne class 65R-1,
a reduced tailswingmodel – a
replacement for the 8065RTS,
and the 67C-1, a conventional
overhanging counterweight design
JCB has unveiled an
array of newmachines,
including its first ever
10 tonne excavator.
Improved fuel economy
is a theme it is
stressing across these
new launches.

a reach at ground level of 7.5m.
Power comes from a 55 kWKohler
engine, whichmeets emissions
regulations without the use of
a bulky diesel particulate filter.
JCB says this power unit offers
a 10% fuel saving compared to
competitivemodels.The 100C-
1 alsohas an engine auto idle
function, whichdrops engine revs
after a pre-determinedperiod of
inactivity up to 30 seconds.
Another important feature is that
all the service intervals – including
greasing – are 500hours. A JCB

Meanwhile, a brandnew addition
to the range, which also includes 8
tonnemachines is the 100C-1, the
first 10 tonne class excavator JCB
has ever built.The company says
it is based on the frame of the 8.6
tonne 86C-1midimachine, but
with amore powerful engine, larger
dig end and increasedhydraulic
capacity to boost performance. Key
markets are seen as France, theUK

spokesman said, “The 500hour
greasing interval is probably only
twice a year, compared toweekly or
daily on othermachines.”

Further up theweight range, JCB
has added the new 30 tonne class
JS300 crawler excavator, which
replaces the JS290. At some point
in the future, onewould expect this
machine to be powered by JCB’s
own six-cylinder engine, whichwas
unveiled last year. For nowhowever
theTier 4/Stage IIIBmachine
features a 161 kW Isuzuunit.
The 100 C-1 is JCB’s first foray into
the 10 tonne excavatormarket.
