– the D220x300 Navigator HDD. The drill boasts 242,100 lbs
(1,077 kN) of thrust/pullback and 30,200 ft-lbs (40,946 Nm) of
rotational torque.
The D220x300 HDD is 37 ft (11.3 m) long and 8.5 ft (2.6
m) wide and is well-suited to urban utility work, as well as large
pipeline installations. It features a sliding-arm rod stager can stage
five rods at a time, allowing for increased boring efficiency.
Little Beaver’s new trailer-
mounted rig, the LS300T+,
offers the capabilities of a
large drill rig in a lighter,
more convenient package.
Economic drilling in Canada
A tophammer unit proves more fuel-efficient than a DTH rig
C
anadian drilling and blasting contractor Castonguay Blasting worked with quarry
operator Graymont to achieve high production rates at the company’s Marbleton
limestone quarry in Quebec.
Quarry production is some 2 million
tonnes of rock a year, with the operation
now placing increasing reliance on four new
Castonguay’s Sandvik DP1500i top hammer
rigs, as oppose to Graymont’s existing
down-the-hole (DTH) rigs.
Sandvik said the quarry now achieves its
high production level while only operating
on a single shift five days a week, managing
between 25 m and 27 m of drilling an hour.
“Castonquay’s Sandvik DP1500i tophammer
units have been found to outperform
comparable DTH rigs in the fleet in terms
of drilling performance, precision and in
particular, fuel economy.
The Sandvik units deliver very precise
drilling at -25% to -30% less fuel
consumption than other equivalent DTH high
pressure compressor units in the company’s
fleet,” Sandvik said.
