Liebherr Cranes
New in themobile cranedepartment
fromLiebherr is the160 tonne capacity
LTM1160-5.2wheeled telescopic crane.
The5-axlemodelwas first presented in
2014at theConExpo show inLasVegas.
It has a62m telescopicboomand its
carrier is 2.75mwide. Inaddition to extra
boom extensions, theLTM1160-5.2has a
1.8 to19m folding jiband canachieve a
maximumhoist height of 99m. The folding
jib canbe erected toanangleof 0, 20or
40degrees. Forwork in two-hook
operation, a secondhoist gear anda
2.9massembly jibanda rooster sheave
is available. TheLTM1160-5.2has a
maximumballast of 54 tonneswithawidth
of 4.27m. It has a totalweight of 60 tonnes
for 12 tonnesper axle. Power comes froma
single six-cylinder 400kWLiebherrdiesel
engine compliantwithTier 4Final. Its
LiebherrLiccon2 crane control systemalso
has anEcomode,whichhelpsminimise
fuel consumptionandnoise.
All the cranespresentedduring the
Intermat showbyLiebherrwill be available
with theLiebherr variable supportingbase.
TheVarioBase systemmakes it possible to
individually extend crane supportswhile
stillmaintaining safeoperationwith the
loadmoment indicator. The systemhelps
prevent accidents causedby incorrect
operations, themanufacturer said.
In the towers
Ahighlight from theLiebherr-Werk
Biberach tower cranedivisionwill be its
faceliftedversionof the160EC-B flat-top
tower crane, thenewLiebherr 172EC-B8
Litronic flat-top.Unveiled for the first time,
it isnow capableof hoisting2.1 tonnes at a
60m radius at the jibhead. The172EC-B
has a capacityof 8 tonnes. It alsohasnew
transport designs,meaning the loadhook
and trolley can remainon the jobpivot
sectionduring transport.
When combinedwith120HC, 170
HCor 256HC tower systems, it has a
maximum free-standinghookheight of
71.4m. Standard equipment includes a
37kW frequency converterhoist gear, used
in2-linemode.Hookheight up to328m
andan emptyhook speedsup toa
maximumof 177mperminute.A45kW
frequency converterhoist gear is available
as anoption. Thenew172EC-B8
Litronic is fittedwith theLitronic crane
controller system.
Alsonew for tower cranes fromLiebherr
is theLiUP cranedriver access elevator. The
200kg (twopeopleorone and equipment)
capacityLiUP ismounted inside the tower
cranemast or, for smaller cranes, on the
outside. It allows theoperator toascend
anddescend tower craneswith current and
oldermast systems insteadof having to
climb ladders to reach theoperating cabin.
It is adouble rack2x2piniondesignand
maximumheight of lift is 300metres.
The lengthof the elevator’s rails are
matched to themast section.Nopower
supply cables, ropesordrag cables are
needed, Liebherr said, as the electronically
controlled system ispoweredbya lithium-
ionbattery. In emergency recovery
situations the elevator canbeoperated
independentlyof the tower crane.

Externalmounting is requiredon the
following: LC, 120HC, 140HC, 170HC,
256 ICand355 IC.

temperatures ranging fromminus 35 to
