New 600 and 900 tonne
Huisman offshore cranes
Huisman, a specialist in lifting,
drilling and subsea solutions
based in the Netherlands, has
introduced a new series of
large offshore cranes. The new
600 and 900 tonne capacity
AHC subsea crane models, are
based on the 200/400 tonne
offshore mast crane design.
The main hoist of the new
cranes will be outfitted with
either a 300 or 450 tonne
traction winch. A storage
winch will be located in the
hold of the vessel to keep the
centre of gravity as low as
possible. This winch can either
store 200, 400 or 600 metres of
wire rope. Heave compensation
on the main hoist is achieved
by using a combined active
and passive system, a company
spokesperson added.
Huisman has already
received two orders for the
new models. DOF Subsea,
Norway, has ordered a
900 tonne AHC subsea crane
for the VARD (formerly STX
OSV) shipyard in Norway. A
second order, made by Subsea
7, was for a 600 tonne AHC
subsea crane.

new 16,400 square metre
production hall will include

the company said. Already
installed are a CNC boring
and milling machine, which

in a single set up, and an IGM
welding robot. Pat O’Leary,
Liebherr Container Cranes
managing director, said, “This
is an exciting time at Liebherr.
Demand for our container
handling products continues
to increase. Liebherr cranes

cranes for Saipem in Italy
Saipem, an Italian energy
contractor specialising in
the oil and gas industry, has
ordered four new crawlers
from the Manitowoc Lift
Solutions team.
The crawlers will be
customised to work in remote
areas, both onshore and
off, and in deep water seas.
The new cranes include two
Manitowoc 14000s, a 777 and
a 999.
Customisations include
adding an hydraulic tagline
winch to aid load handling
stability in offshore lifting
applications; personnel-
handling winch and two-shaft
upper boom point; salt water
protection, including a zinc-
based primer; custom lights
and an emergency backup
hydraulic power that can swing,
hoist and lower all winches,
and can also lift and lower the
boom in case of engine failure.
All equipment and upgrades
have been designed with RINA
(Registro Navale Italiano)
certification in mind, the
company said.
Dustin Soerens, product
support specialist at
Manitowoc, said, “On a large-
scale, highly technical customer
request such as this, open
communication is a must. Both
Saipem and Manitowoc did a
great job in forming detailed
plans early on in the project to
ensure the final product met
Saipem’s expectations. This
project was a vivid example
of the attention to customer
demands and dedication to
custom project accuracy that
Lift Solutions was established
to meet.”
Production began in June
2012 and the cranes were
inspected by Saipem ATCO
mobile cranes superintendent
Andrea D’Ostilio in November
and December before delivery.
Saipem is a subsidiary of oil
conglomerate Eni.
