The Bauma ConExpo Africa construction exhibition
will move to a three-year cycle after the next event,
which will be held from September 15 to 18, next
year. The inagural event was held in September
2013, but the organisers said the decision to hold
the third show in 2018 came following consultation
with local and international industry representatives.
It was said that the recommendation was for a three-
year cycle for the show for African markets. Elaine
Crewe, CEO of organisers BC Expo South Africa,
said, “We made this strategic decision based on the
many discussions we have held since the extremely
successful premiere. The three-year cycle clearly
positions Bauma ConExpo Africa as the leading trade
fair in Africa for the global construction and mining
industry.”

US construction industry end-users will increase
equipment fleet and staff sizes in the coming year,
according to a survey conducted by the Association
of Equipment Manufacturers. Overall, smaller-sized
companies have a more positive outlook than some
of their bigger competitors. Companies that listed
lifting or hoisting as one of their core categories
seemed more positive about the future than others.
More than 1,200 responses were farmed by the AEM
with about 680 of those heavily analysed. According
to the survey, about 40 to 43% of companies with
less than 1,000 employees indicate that they will
increase their fleet size over the next 12 months
and ±30% said they are maintaining their fleet size.
However, for larger companies with more than 1,000
staff members, the number was smaller, indicating
that only 25% of those responding would increase
their fleet.

he number of vacancies for senior construction professionals in the Gulf region
is surging, according to international professional services consultancy Procorre,
which operates in all business sectors across 120 countries.
It said events such as the Qatar World Cup and Expo 2020 in the UAE were driving
demand for project engineers, construction managers and project directors.
Reporting on vacancies to work on a contractor basis – excluding permanent posts
– it said senior construction positions accounted for 27% of total white collar roles
marketed to UK individuals in the UAE, 82% in Qatar and 54% in Saudi Arabia.
Lisa Mangan, relationship manager at Procorre, said, “The number of roles for senior
construction contractors in the Gulf fell sharply after the financial crisis, as funding for
new building projects collapsed.
“But the regional economic recovery and high oil prices have combined to trigger
another boom in building, particularly as the region prepares for major events like the
World Cup. There is a massive need for contractors to oversee the construction work
beginning in Qatar. Building has started on the 12 stadiums needed for the 2022 World
Cup, and individuals such as architects and engineers are needed to implement the
planned extension to its road system, expansion of its power and power supplies and
the construction of a brand new international airport.”
