conducted customized
Competent Person Training
and User Training workshops
for about 100 workers to
prepare them for work on a
new nuclear plant in Georgia.
Steve Cabral, certified trainer
and member of Spider Systems
Group, conducted both training
programs. For the Competent
Person Training, Cabral led 18
plant employees through the
two-day course. In addition,
more than 70 employees
completed the 2-hour User
Training, also led by Cabral, to
familiarize them with the safe
operation of the powered access
equipment to be used onsite.
Platinum Equity has signed a
definitive agreement to sell
NESCO
to an affiliate of Energy
Capital Partners LLC. Terms
of the agreement, expected to
close during the first quarter,
were not disclosed. The
sale comes on the heels of
Platinum’s recent $1.1 billion
acquisition of Volvo Rents.
United Rentals targets
export sales of used fleet
United Rentals will significantly
boost export sales of used
equipment from its fleet with a
target for exports to increase from
5 percent to 30 percent of the
total by 2018.
United, which currently has
100,000 for sale items with an
original cost of $700 million, is
aiming to reach emerging markets
such as South America, the Middle
East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
The strategy, said Tim Rule, vice
president of market development,
is to create a market for excess
fleet during downturns in North
America and to act as a “relief
valve” during low utilization
months.
“Our export sales so far have
been opportunistic – people
find us,” said Rule. “Based on
the demand we are seeing, we
feel that through increasing
the awareness of what we are

Haulotte will launch its HT67 RTJ
telescopic boom into the North
American market at the ConExpo,
March 4-8 in Las Vegas.
Launched last year as the
HT23 RTJ, as it is known outside
North America, it has a platform
height of 67 feet, 5 inches and a
horizontal outreach of 60 feet,
5 inches.
The optional Dual Load Capacity
offers lifting capacity of up to
1,000 pounds, while the lifting
speed is 56 seconds to full height.
Other products on display on the
offering, and making it easier for
people to find us, we can meet
that demand.”
United already has four
dedicated export sales staff in
place, including three based
in Latin America. The existing
online listings pages will be made
available in multiple languages
during 2014.
The focus will be on items that
can be containerized for transport,
limiting the size of products to, for
example, 80-foot booms (knocked
down) and smaller. Although
there are 3000 product classes
available to buy, Rule said there
has been a particular demand for
aerial platforms, with one recent
order of 300 electric scissor lifts
to a rental company in Hong Kong.
Of the items for sale, there
are 15,000 aerial platforms and
telehandlers, consisting of 9,000
scissors, 1,500 booms and 3,500
telehandlers.
“We sell a lot of our equipment
in Asia, markets like Hong Kong,
South Korea, Thailand and
Vietnam,” he said.
Rule pointed out that the vast
amount of equipment currently for
sale is normal for a fleet that has
an original cost of more than $7
billion.
Skyjack has launched two
secondary guarding options,
which can be fitted to its
new products or retrofitted to
existing fleet manufactured
in 2006 or after. The Skyjack
SG-M system features a
low-weight protective steel
structure that is designed to
reduce the possibility of the
operator being held against
the controls in the event of
unintended contact with an
obstruction. The SG-E also
offers a sensor bar that,
when pushed, instantly stops
all functions and initiates
an audible siren and high-
intensity flashing beacon. If
the bar is released within one
second, the siren and beacon
will cease, and the selected
function will return. If
pressure is applied for more
than one second, the siren
and beacon will continue to
activate and the engine will
stop, halting all functions
until reset.
Haulotte booth will be the HA130
JRT (HA41 PX-NT) and HA51 JRT
(HA41 PX-NT) articulating booms;
the Compact 2668 RT (C12DX)
diesel scissor; Optimum 1930 E
(Optimum 8) and Compact 3947 E
(Compact 14) electric scissors; the
Star 26J (Star 10) electric vertical
mast; the 55XA light weigh self-
propelled boom; and the 4527A
trailer mount.
Of the items United is selling,
there are 15,000 aerial
platforms and telehandlers,
consisting of 9,000 scissors,
1,500 booms and 3,500
telehandlers.
Of the 5 percent of fleet sales
that are currently exported, around
46 percent goes to Latin American
customers, followed by Asia with
30 percent. Within North America,
65 percent of used sales are retail,
while 30 percent are ‘wholesale,’
including manufacturer trade-ins
and auctions.
Haulotte will launch its HT67
RTJ telescopic boom into the
North American market.
