INTERNATIONAL
A
s Iwrite, January seems tohave flown by and is nearly over
already; I have nodoubt the rest of the yearwill zoom along just
as rapidly.
So,beforewe find ourselves halfway through 2015, Iwould like
towish you a successful elevenmonths ahead. For those of youwho
celebrate the start of your calendar at a different time, then I am
probably closer to themark inwishing you a happy ‘beginning’ to
the year.
There are certainly a large number of industry events and activities
packed into themonths ahead. Intermat is just around the corner in
April, and in this issue youwill find a short preview of the event, ahead
of the full showguide in theMarch issue.
Before Intermat is the International Awards for PoweredAccess
(IAPAs),on 26March inWashington,DC,USA. It promises to be a
great event, partly thanks to the impressive number of entries across
the 13 categories. The IAPAs take place on the same day as the IPAF
Summit and are organised by
AI
and IPAF -we greatly appreciate the
time and effort youhave put into your award entries.
While events like the IAPAswill give cause for celebrationduring
the year, challenges still lie ahead formany in the access industry. Some
Europeanmarkets, for example, are still feeling the pressure from a
long economic downturn. One of thosemarkets is Italy, where platform
manufacturerOil&Steel, alongwith its parent companyPMGroup,
has been acquired byUSA-basedManitex International.PM’sCEO
Luigi Fucili believes the deal, finalised in January, will help transform its
fortunes. He also promises that PM’swell-establisheddealer network
will helpManitex’s international expansionplans.See the interviewwith
Mr Fucili, starting onpage 12.
Challenging times alsodonot seem todampenproduct development.
Throughout this issue there are newproduct announcements. In the
News, for example, you can read about Skyjack’s 82 ft boom, to be
launched at theRental Show inNewOrleans this February.New
products are alsodiscussed in theVerticalmasts;China; Intermat
preview;Batteries;Rental Showpreview; and theAccess inAction/
Equipment features. In the latter,MEC introduces an innovative heavy-
duty scissor formining and tunnelling applications.
Enjoy this issue of
AI
, and I’ll see you aroundduring the year at some
of the shows and events.
