“People’smindset is changing; they are
starting to see the advantage of theAWP and
sowill use them,”addsMrHan.

and looking to expand its exports isBuomo.
According to its generalmanager JasonLv,
sales in the domesticmarket have dropped in
the last year.
Sales focus
The company produces dual verticalmasts
and scissors,with its newproduct atBauma
China being the 16workingheightGTWY2-
16. Its dualmastmeans that twopeople can
work from the basket, there is alsodual control
from the ground and the basket.Speaking
inNovember,MrLv said itwould introduce
fixed scissors from2m to8mplatformheight
over the next twomonths,with a boomof an
unspecifiedworkingheight, following two
months after that.
“We produce about 1000units each year,”
saysMrLv and claims the company sees
revenue of aroundUS$4million,80%ofwhich
comes fromdomestic sales,“But sales have
gone down a little because there aremore
manufacturers inChina now and somore
competition.”
MrLv estimates there are 35Chinese
powered access equipmentmanufacturers in
China.“This competitionwill increase in the
future,”he adds.
The biggestChina-basedmanufacturer is
Dingli. It has a large number ofmodels in its
range, including30booms,40 scissors and
30 verticalmasts and its standwas one of the
biggest of all themanufacturers showing at
BaumaChina.
It claims to sell 15000units a year,most of
which are personal lifts and electric scissors.
Around350of its scissors go into the rental
market eachmonth and in the last three years
between5000 and6000units have been sold to
theChinese rentalmarket.According toHarry
Chen atDingli, about 60%–65%of sales are
to the exportmarket,mainlySouthEastAsia
andEurope,withGermany andTurkey being
fast-growingmarkets.That equates to about
600units a year going toGermany alone.

J:C,otherwise known as JiangheLifting, is
one of the newChinesemanufacturers tohave
sprungup in recent years. It started exporting
machines last year, andnow sells 30%of its
products outsideChina. It has agents inBrazil,
Australia andRussia.“We are putting the focus
on expandingour overseasmarket,”says general
managerBillyHan.Themain areas of interest
are SouthAmerica and theMiddleEast.”
So far the company has no international
dealers but is in talks to introduce them. In
China its equipment is beingusedby theChina
AirwayCorporation and theChinaRailway
Corporation, forwhich it ismaintaininghigh
speed trains.
MrHan says,“Ten years agopeople rarely
used a platform; itwas too expensive.Now
a relevantworksitewill have at least one.So,
China is potentially a hugemarket andwe
believe itwill grow in thisway.”
J:Chas 6m to12mworkingheight scissors
in its range.Newon its stand atBaumaChina
was a 12m electric scissorwith a hydraulic
version following soon.Therewas also a new
6m scissor there.The company is in the throes
of launching20m and26mworkingheight
telescopic booms, and is planning to introduce

ConcerningChina,MrChen agreeswith
the view that competitionwill grow.“It’s a fast
growingmarket and in the next few years there
will bemanymoremanufacturers and rental
companies – growthwill be huge in the next
five years.”
MrChen adds,“Five years agonoone knew
about scissor lifts but now in construction you
can see them a lot. In the past they didnot have
themoney anddidn’t know themachines.”
MrChen calculates there are about
150 rental companies inChina that are
significant-enough in sizewith around100 to
150machines in their fleets.“Almost all are
customers ofDingli,only one or twobuy just
fromGenie and JLG.”
