plans to build an excavator
factory in Spartanburg, South

is due to start in April and the

its factory in Itsukaichi, Japan
through a newly appointed

secured a 340,000 m

site in
Spartanburg, and once built
the 14,560m

factory will have
an initial production capacity
of 1,800 excavators per year.
Kobelco plans to start with
20 tonne excavators and then,
“Sequentially increase themenu
and production in accordance
withmarket development.”
Kobelco said building the
US factory will mean shorter
lead times and better after-sales
service for its US customers,
while reducing pressure on its
Itsukaichi factory. However, it
added that specialmachines and
mini excavators would continue
