oming up fast at the end of this month
and into the beginning of November are
a couple of major events for the crane
and transport industry. On 29 and 30 October
is the World Crane and Transport Summit and
then, on 4 and 5 November, is the International
Tower Cranes Conference. Both are running for
the third time, the former every two years since
2009 and the latter every year since 2011. We
work hard to put on a good event with valuable content and great
networking opportunities. It takes time to build up a good event
and I am very pleased that we continue to receive great support
in helping to develop the events as an essential part of the
industry’s calendar.
The WCTS is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and the ITC is in
Berlin, Germany. I look forward to meeting many of the industry’s
top players from around the world and hearing the latest news in
products, safety, business and markets. For a preview of the WCTS
see pages 23 and 24 in this issue and for the ITC go back to the
September issue and see page 29. More information and booking
details are at the
web pages.
As we enter (already) the final quarter of the year, an overview
of recent financial news and quarterly reports presents a rather
mixed picture of highs and lows. While the crane manufacturing
industry overall is up marginally, a closer look reveals extremes, in
that business is way down in China, strong in North America and
pretty much unchanged in Europe (again, overall but with peaks
and troughs within the region).
More consistently positive, however, was that in September
all but one of the manufacturers in the
IC
Share Index (page 13)
posted strong share price gains, contributing to an overall rise of
nearly 7 %. Ironic, perhaps, was that while Japanese manufacturers
were among the highest gainers, that lone company that didn't was
from Japan. In another twist, however, that same company has
recently shown strong revenue growth. Twists and turns indeed.
