The New Delhi Police headquarters has a new
look. The building’s wall now boasts the largest
mural of Mahatma Gandhi in India.
The portrait, spread over a gigantic 150 ft x
38 ft wall, has been painted by German graffiti
artist Hendrik Beikirch, along with Delhi-based
artist Anpu. The mural was part of a larger street
art festival that took place in the capital and
was finished on 30 January, the anniversary of
Gandhi’s death. A Genie S-125 telescopic boom
was used.
Five Palazzani track mounted platforms are being
used at Mumbai International Airport (MIAL).
They include three 25 m TSJ 25/C ECO and
two 27 m TSJ 27/C lifts. MIAL, previously named
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA),
has five operating terminals spread over 610 ha
and is the busiest airport in India.
The consortium Mumbai International Airport
Ltd. was appointed to carry out the modernisation
of the airport in February 2006. The project was
to be completed by the end of 2013, but has been
delayed by a year to the end of 2014.

AFI scores in
the Reebok
Ultra Cleaning Service recently hired a boom
and scissor lift from AFI Manchester for
use in cleaning the cladding at the Reebok
Stadium, UK, the home of Bolton Wanderers
FC (football club).
A JLG 860SJ boom lift was used inside
the stadium and a Skyjack SJ8841 scissor lift
for cleaning work outside. Julian Chadwick,
managing director of Ultra Cleaning Service,
said, “Inside the ground we needed a powered
access machine that would fit through the
narrow entrance and give us enough outreach
so that we could clean the cladding at the
corners of the stands whilst keeping the
machine off the pitch.”
Italian
specialist
The Costa Diadema is owned by Costa
Cruises and weighs 132000 tonnes. It will
have 1862 cabins once fully constructed. Its
maiden voyage is set for 5 November 2014.
Mast climbing specialist Safi, based in Italy,
has supplied a special platform to help
construct the largest cruise ship ever built in
the country.
Safi’s EL200/EL300 has been designed
and built to speed up the installation of the
cabins within the ship. Previously cabins were
constructed on site, but the cabins for the
Costa Diadema have been pre-constructed
and delivered as complete units to the
dockside.
The EL200/EL300 rack and pinion device
lifts the cabins on two masts which are then
slotted into their respective housing inside the
ship. This technique, says Safi, saves a great
deal of time and money, compared to the
previous system.
