H
ere we are at the beginning of another busy year for the access
industry; so, no time to waste - let’s get started. All the signs
show that it will be a good year for manufacturers and users as
economies in Europe start to pick up and the North American market
continues to climb.
ConExpo, coming up at the beginning of March in Las Vegas, USA,
will help provide a clearer idea of where things are heading in the
country. There will be a good selection of access equipment companies
there, and plenty of new products between them. The ConExpo
showguide starts on page 20.
Turning to Europe, the UK will host this year’s International Powered
Access Awards (IAPA). Organised by
Access International
and IPAF, the
awards ceremony will take place in Windsor, near London. It is set to be
a fantastic event, thanks to a great response from the industry - we have
had more than 100 entries from across the world. That’s not including the
Photograph of the Year category which closes on 31 January; so get those
cameras clicking.
As you may already know the award judges have been announced, and,
again, represent the powered access industry around the world.Their vast
experience and impartiality will be great assets to this year’s event. See the
IAPA preview on page 37.
Moving on to another great European institution; APEX is just a
few months away. The three-yearly exhibition, to be held this year in
Amsterdam, instead of its former home Maastricht, is nearly sold out and
will be the biggest ever when it takes place in June. It goes without saying
that the industry will be out in force - expect a large amount of industry
news and product launches at the event and as we lead up to it. See the
News, starting on page 6, for a story about the exhibition.
Apart from those big industry events, this issue of
AI
includes its usual
feast of features and interviews. Among them, Per Torp, CEO of Time
International and Time Denmark, talks about new products and ventures
in the vehicle mounted segment. The company seeks to throw its might
into the highly competitive 3.5 tonne truck mount market, and beyond.
There is also an in-depth look at the vertical mast sector, starting on
page 15, which holds so much potential internationally and promises
a number of new products. Then there is an enlightening view of the
international mast climbing community, starting on page 31.
That just leaves me to wish you a very happy and successful year ahead.
