The turbinehad tobe set
partially inside thebuilding
ontomats and steel plates. It
was then rigged to a200-ton
gantryonone end and a crane
on theother end. The gantry
and crane lifted together
andmoved the turbine into
thebuildinguntil it could
be loweredon skates and
rollers andmoved to its final
position.
In extremewintry conditions,
HWPRigging
received,
uprighted and set intoplace
a cylindrical liquidnitrogen
storage vessel into a confined
areanear the center of a fully
operational facility.A60-foot
tall lift tower consistingof
structural columns andbeams,
hydraulic gantries and a
hydraulicbeam trolleywere
used toupright andmove the
vessel to its final restingplace.

Facility inCharleston, SC. The
project involved settingup75
feet of gantry track elevated12
feet above the floor usingpipe
stands. Tools included aOne

100-ton capacitypneumatic
airhoist to lift the gear box.
Once lifted itwasmoved35
feet along the gantry track and
set intoposition.

pedestalmarine crane at the
newMaidof theMistwinter
storage facility atNiagara
Falls.With a200-foot drop
in elevation from theupper
jobsite to thewater’s edgewas
amajor challenge, and crews
used aManitowoc 888Ringer
to lower equipment, tools and
personnel to thework area.
Clark’s scopeofworkwas
offloading all components,
transporting all equipment
and components from the lay
down area to the storagepad,
erecting theLiebherrmarine
pedestal cranenext to the
water’s edge, load testing the
crane to amaximum capacity
of 220 tons, andproviding
operator and rigging supports
to safely remove theboats
anddocks. Equipment used
included aTerexAC500-2,
SanySCC1000, TerexRT665
and10 lines ofGoldhofer
SPMT.

In a first of its kind job,
ALE
broke aworld recordby
jacking a42.78metric ton
offshore topsides structure
at theDSMEyard inSouth
Korea inMay2013. Exxon’s
ArkutunDagi Project
provided the specimen for
ALE toperform the jobwith
anALE-engineered and
manufactured60,000metric
ton capacity system. The
topsides structurewas jacked
to aheight of 24meters in11
hours.
Barnhart Crane &
Rigging
set the SRO99
Tunnel BoringMachine in
Seattle. Components of the
TBMweighedup to1,250 tons
andwerehauled tounder the
hookof a travelingModular
LiftTower.Once rigged, the
componentswere lifted and
sometimes up-endedby the
MLT,which travelledon
heavyduty slide trackusing
800-ton end trucks.Once
over the excavatedpit, the
componentswere lowered
into an assembly saddle.With
some components, theMLT
acted as theprimary lift crane,
and aTerexCC1800operated
as the tailing crane.
Burkhalter
, under contract
fromSundtConstruction,
assisted in the construction
of theworld’s first precast
network archbridge.
Burkhalter’s jobwas to rig, lift,
rotate and slide into storage
12300-ton concretebridge
arches at a construction site
about 1mile from thebridge
site.Once the archeswere
transported to thebridge
site, Burkhalterhanded the
rigging, lifting and settingof
each arch into their respective
bearings using twoLR1400
crawlers and two crane lifts.
After the archeswere set, one
of theLR1400 craneswas
reconfigured to lower 17 floor
beams between arches and
hangunderneath arches over
the river span.
International Industrial
Contracting Corp.
was selectedbyFordMotor
Company to install their
largest stampingprogram
upgrade in the last 10years.
IICC completed a turnkey
installationof four high
speed tandem lines and two
blanking lines that consisted
of 20presses, front of line,
endof line, inter press robotic
automation and coil feed
equipment. The company also
supported the commissioning
and start-up through final
acceptance test/production to
bothFord and thepressOEM
JEIRofChina.
